This is our 11th visit here and understandable very expensive compared to our last visits. Came to relax and enjoy the ocean but so many kids screaming all over the place and outside our room. The wife said we won't stay until kids are back in school and it's not $1400 for 2 nights with a partial view and so noisy we can't hear the TV. I think I would say it's not so much a sanctuary by definition. Guess we expected past experiences.

I was so excited for a week in a suite on the beach! The view really is beautiful. But the fireplace in the suite did not work, nor did the TV in the bedroom or the toilet. After calling the front desk several times, they finally admitted that the fireplace was broken and they could move me to a smaller room. The staff were very helpful about it.
The new room still had a great view (with a working fireplace, tv, and toilet). But the new room was much smaller. I ended up leaving a day early to stay someplace larger.
When I checked out, I was given the impression that the rates would be adjusted

Spent 4 days here in late December. Stayed in a suite, our daughter in the connecting room. The location is great. Pay the rates for an oceanfront view and it truly is nice. I'd suggest you verify (more than a few times) any special considerations you may want.
With that, the property needs some attention. Dry rot is extensive on the outside, inside is better off, but the slip cover over a '70's pull out sofa was a bit odd. Ants in the shower wasn't expected either.

The Sanctuary is aptly named because if you are looking to get away from the busyness and noise. I recommend the ocean view suites. You can see the view in my pictures for a reference.
My wife and I are busy people so the drive from Sacramento was long enough to decompress but not too long. The views on the later part of the drive are beautiful and relaxing.
The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable to help mark your stay an experience. When you arrive they have staff to take you to your room on extended golf carts.
The property has a fine dining experience which is great

Hubs, pup and I stayed here while attending my brother's wedding nearby. I've been eyeing this place for a while as it was highly recommended to me by a couple coworkers , and it was the perfect opportunity to book a stay! AND they're "dog-friendly" which in our eyes was a major plus, because that meant we wouldn't have to board our pup anywhere & he could adventure with us (..but more on this later)!

The Sanctuary was amazing! My fiancé and I went there for our honeymoon, and we had a great time. We booked a room with an ocean view and were able to watch the sunrise/sunset and even see some dolphins from our deck. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The nightly bonfires were fun and right on the beach. We wished the weather was warmer when we went, but overall we had an amazing experience!

The weirdest check in process I’ve had in a while! The front desk staff is rude and aggressive. They don’t greet on call or in person- probably the first of its kind in hospitality. We received a call for upgrade on ocean front , we confirmed reservation also made dinner reservation for the night. Upon check in, we were told we were not upgraded to the said room and in fact it was some other room. Our dinner reservation was also not confirmed!

It's right on the beach, which is amazing, but that's where the magic ends. They have bonfires very close to all of the rooms -- the most expensive rooms, the panoramas and the junior suites. At night, the wind stops and the whole area fills up with smoke. Everyone complains that the smoke fills up their very expensive rooms, but the hotel does nothing to change it. There's no AC, so we close everything up and try to sleep in stuffy, smoky air.
It's 2021, there are fires all over California. We came here to get some fresh air, and they are purposefully burning bonfires outside

My husband and I stayed 3 nights for our honeymoon here. As much as we loved the location and the view, the stay was quite disappointing.
My in-laws told us they had called (apparently multiple times) to request a meats & cheese plate as well as a bottle of prosecco be delivered/ready for us when we arrive as a surprise for our honeymoon. This, however, was never delivered. It sounds like multiple reviews have stated similar issues.
Second of all, our room was not cleaned/serviced even once during our stay. I don't know what time they start the cleaning process but we were gone from the morning

I usually don't do negative reviews since they tend to be after one bad event or mishap which can happen. The purpose of my review is really to enlighten unsuspecting guests. The one mishap- was that we checked into a suite at $1800 a night hoping for a beautiful vacation. What we got was an unmade room, with a cockroach in the sink, used towels, and an overall untidy room. When I called the front office and then the management , I was told that due to COVID the did not have anyone to clean the room and they kindly dropped off sheets/ towels/ and a trash bag to empty our trash.

Great relaxing beach resort in quiet Marina. Close to Monterey and other areas for activities or great for never moving from your room.
Do wish they could other golf carts for the guests in the beach front rooms with extra waiver or whatever for liability as when I came her over 10 years ago everyone got one and really added to the experience (or I’m just a boy and want more toys …)

Overall speaking our stay was great. Staffs are super friendly and helpful. It was quiet most of the times which felt great. I would love to suggest some improvements for the sanctuary. For breakfast it could be great to have some vegan alternatives. The rooms could look a little bit more modern. The parking was far away and was very inconvenient. I would definitely go back ;)

Update: We have been staying at the Sanctuary since 2017 and have always had an outstanding time. We did still enjoy our stay but did find ourselves disappointed in a few things.
Prior to our stay I had requested our favorite room. We knew there was a chance our request could not be fulfilled. But when I checked in the young man had no idea I had requested this room until I brought it up. ( I received e-mail confirmation that my request had been received.) He was very friendly though.

I wanted to love this place, I really did. For months we waited for our reservation and we arrived we were so incredibly disappointed . We had a Jr. Suite, ocean view room. We arrived around 1 pm to see if they had early check-in. The woman on the phone told us she couldn't find our reservation and that she needed to talk to her manager. Uh, ok. After they got everything squared away, she said she would enter everything into the system and call us back... Never heard a word back.

The stay was lovely and the staff very considerate and helpful. That being said, the online reviews do make it seem like it is something it is not. It is portrayed as much more luxury than it is in reality. It was a nice stay, but not nice enough for $500+/night.

We celebrated my birthday with a weekend at the Sanctuary Beach Resort & was disappointed even with one of their best room-the panoramic suite!!
When you 1st arrive, the lobby is beautiful. It's modern, bright with a nicely designed back grass area. The location of our room was amazing, right on the sand dunes with a deck. In the late afternoon, we were able to watch hand glider flying by.
But.... the room itself was awful!! It was no better than embassy suites. The room is dated with rust, stains & overall very little up keep. When you pay $700+, you expect more!! It felt

ROOM 702 Ocean Front DOG FRIENDLY ($50 per dog). Resort is located on Stunning Marina Beach!! Yes it's expensive, but you cannot beat the LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! We were in a beach Front deluxe room number 702. It was upstairs. Yes, the rooms are slightly "dated" but you need to come here for the ease of BEACH FRONT ACCESS!!!! Kids LOVE it here!!! They sell s'mores in the lobby but I'd recommend to bring your own s'mores and save some money. The bon fires at night are Epic!!! Restaurant on site is very good and we really enjoyed our continental breakfast. Kureig

Stayed here for a night and the first time we really stayed away for a night since COVID started. We really needed a night away, and thankfully this spot took all the necessary precautions which was great.
The room itself was nice, but a bit overpriced for what you're getting, but I guess it's the location. It's right by the ocean and you'll have easy access to the beach from your room. Our room didn't have a heater, so it got a bit cold during the night though.

The one star is for the view. It really is a beautiful location. I hope that my experience is a very off event for this property. To premise this... I'm not one to post very negative comments.
We stayed here two nights in October. I paid to upgrade the room to a more beach front location. We had requested early check in but after paying for the upgrade it was delayed since the room was not ready. Not a huge deal.
