Established in 2002, we are a small one room Montessori preschool and child care located in the heart of Sumner, Washington. We have a limit of 15 children, ages 2 1/2 to 5. Journeys Montessori provides a small, nurturing, and fun learning environment with an emphasis on involvement with seniors in the Sumner community.
Services
Our great location allows us to connect with our neighborhood. Students AND teachers get our "wiggles out" by playing in nearby Rainier Park and taking a class at Sumner Taekwondo.

Some of the ways we provide opportunities for children to give back to their community are by collecting and delivering food donations to the Sumner Food Bank and by going on walking field trips to the Sumner Senior Center and Stafford Suites to visit with the grandmas and grandpas. We are fortunate to have our own gardens where our children can be part of the growing process.
My name is Dara Knowles and I am the founder and lead teacher of Journeys Montessori. Born and raised in Ireland, I came to the US in 1985 and have loved working with children since then. In 1990 I went back to Ireland to do my Montessori training at St. Nicholas Montessori College. After I returned to the US I opened Journeys Montessori Preschool in Sumner, Washington in 2002.
Both of my daughters attended Journey's between ages 2 1/2 to 5. My wife and I always felt safe leaving our daughters with Dara and her excellent staff. Our daughters loved attending as well, and regarded Dara and her staff as extended family. Frequent outings to many fun locations made our daughters' experience adventurous and exciting while Journey's curriculum prepared them for kindergarten.

Journey's Montessori is a fantastic school. The owner, Dara, has created a very nurturing atmosphere in which the kids can learn, play and grown. I loved the Montessori method of teaching for both of my children, they learned independence and sharing. My kids attended both the preschool program and the after school program at the school. This was truly a home away from home for my kids. Also, the staff that Dara hires are wonderful, they are genuinely are invested in all the kids welfare. I was lucky enough to go on various field trips with the kids and teachers, to the pumpkin patch or to visit

Absolutely nothing bad to say about Journey's. Dara was always caring, accommodating, and creative in the way she ran her school. We enjoyed our experience so much at Journey's that we still keep in touch
