Services
Mint Dental Works was founded in 2003 when Dr. McMillan took over the practice of a much beloved retiring dentist, Dr. Hinds. We loved the history and quirkiness of our original space and the patients were fantastic, but the office's most high-tech piece of equipment was an electric typewriter! The building's diminutive 900 s.f.
Mint Dental Work's goal is to provide you with a comprehensive slate of services, compassion and exceptional care. Mint Dental Works' services focus on caring for your overall oral hygiene, and maintaining the health of your teeth, gums, and mouth. Our doctors' countless hours of postgraduate training mean many of your surgical needs can be tended to at Mint Dental Works.
Conveniently located between 14th and 15th and SE Morrison, Mint Dental Works has made its home in the heart of Portland's burgeoning Central Eastside. Our office is in a beautifully renovated former grocery store building with off- and on-street parking. Tri-Met's #15 Bus Line stops directly in front of our building.
We are thrilled that you've chosen to entrust us with your oral health and we look forward to meeting you. Your first exam is an important step for us to get to know you, hear your dental concerns and to evaluate your needs. We will use a variety of diagnostic records including: X-rays, photos, and periodontal readings (gum measurements).
We designed a green dental office that reflects our commitment to the well-being of our patients, staff and the environment. Mint Dental Works was the first LEED-certified dental practice in the country. LEED is a national benchmark for green buildings.
Through rigorous planning and careful construction, we created a high-performance green facility that is a healthy, productive place to work; less costly to operate and maintain; and reduces our environmental footprint. Our specially designed heating and cooling systems provide the cleanest air possible with a fresh-air exchange feature and C02 sensors.

Dr. Macmillan is the best dentist in the whole world. I cannot say enough. I have extreme dental anxiety and needed quite a bit of work done. I fall asleep in his chair without nitrous- he is so gentle and had the most calming soothing energy. All the work he did was impeccable. And the one time I wasn’t happy, they did everything to make sure I got the results I had in my imagination and I couldn’t be happier with my teeth. I had some prior traumatic experiences with dentists before finding Dr. Macmillan and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone who has had the same. I literally couldn’t think

They deleted my previous review so I'm subtracting one star. The new way of places having you sign documents is so bizarre to me. They want you to blindly sign a screen to something that they have on their separate screen that you can't see, but even if you see it or they print it they could steal your signature or you could actually be signing something you have no intention to sign.
You spend your whole life being told to be cautious of this and yet now this wack process is becoming more and more frequent. And not only do they not read the document, they just sum it all up. What&apos

I have been going to Mint Dental Works longer than some of the staff has been there. Everyone is always friendly and professional. Dr. McMillan is very competent and efficient as well as friendly and caring. The other doctors are nice but I haven't really had any interaction with them. They also have warm neck pillows (pre covid) , massage chairs, tv's (so you could watch a movie) and headphones. I think the only complaint I have is the cost but that's everywhere so if you need to choose a great dental office, Mint is the best.

I was pulled back 8-9 minutes late after arriving 10-15 minutes early, but that was all okay because the dental hygienist Hildie is A+. Only downside is she would not elect to clean the teeth of an alligator unless it was sedated. Dental staff in the back is buoyant and relaxed which is great. Clean, efficient care, liberal with hand-outs, very cautious in regards to avoiding patient pain. Good times were had by all.

I went here over 4 years ago and I am STILL thinking about how the dental hygenist said, i think you have a cavity, yea that must be a cavity i think. Then schedule me to come in for a filling next time and i never went back, feeling scamming--like she really didn't know what she was talking about but definitely knew that meant more $$$. I have gone to 3 other dentists since then and no one has mentioned any cavity. The dentist also highly recommended gum grafting to me which is very intense and not needed for the mild recession I have. I'm guessing i am NOT the first or only patient

I recently broke a tooth and have only been in the Portland area a short time. I found Mint dental on Yelp and I decided to give them a try. I am so glad I did! I ended up needing a crown and luckily for me, they do that in house so there was no need for a two appointment saga. They are so focused on your comfort there it is amazing. Right when I get there they gave me a heated neck pillow to help relax me. I get really nervous going to the dentist so I really appreciated that. They also have a big screen so you can watch Netflix while they are working on you which also takes your mind off things

If you are rich and/or have excellent dental insurance, this is the place for you. I enjoyed coming here when I had great dental insurance, but once I left that job, I didn't have dental anymore and two years passed. I just got a $250 dental FSA from my employer and called to make sure Mint would accept it and that it would cover a cleaning. Yes, they said, a cleaning/xrays would be $241. Perfect! Then when I came in, they did x-rays and kind of gave me a guilt trip about how bad my teeth were (since I hadn't had a cleaning recently) and said a deep clean would actually be more than

After my ongoing experiences at Mint through 2016, I will never return to them as a patient. It has taken me two years to write this review (writing now in 2018) because my final appointment there felt like assault, and I haven't wanted to tell anyone or talk about it. Still don't, frankly, and hoping they don't respond to me here on Yelp because, after what happened, the last thing I want to do is interact with them again.
The good:
The office is clean and bright. The hygienist I saw for routine cleanings was gentle, patient, and kind. The first dentist I saw, Dr. Shepard, was

I love Scarlett at the front, she is so calming and really listens. Scarlett is honestly why I made my follow up appointments, I feel like she is a great advocate.
During my procedure I was given a warm neck pillow and NETFLIX! Then I went back for a cleaning and sat in a massaging chair. This is a pretty awesome spot. I do feel a bit rushed while in back and not fully understood but everyone is super friendly.

My wife and I went to Mint for a couple years. No longer.
Initially, the warm neck pillows, stylish and clean office, modern technology, the ability to watch Netflix while they work on your teeth all made for a very comfortable cleaning. But their dentists started recommending more and more dental work. They discovered multiple "cavities" in both of our mouths. Having only ever had one cavity in my life, I pushed back, so they brought out a device that scans your teeth and spits out a reading that's meaningless to the patient and told me this device eliminated one spot they wanted

Mint dental works begs to ask the question just because you can, does that mean you should? I've had regular cleanings every six months at a different dentist with no problems so I was shocked when I was "prescribed" a treatment plan costing $1,000. I was quickly ushered to the treatment plan specialist where she started setting up appointments and payment plans for me. I politely declined and was met with some resistance. I was also told the dentist I just saw was moving to Maui. Upon a second opinion at a different dentist, I was given a spot fluoride treatment and some fluoride

I'll start off by saying that I'm super claustrophobic. The dentist is one of my biggest obstacles as a person living with claustrophobia. I've been to a lot of dentists that disregard this fact when I tell them, leading to me usually never going back to that dentist again. But for the last year I've been working with mint dental, Dr. Rask in particular. He is an amazing dentist, super patient, understanding, and more interested in your comfort in his chair then he is in getting you out of it. If you're claustrophobic, dent a phobic, or just don't like the chair, mint

Very friendly staff, immaculately clean office, state of the art equipment, eco-friendly environment, able to handle mercury removal, easy to schedule, never a long wait time, and... Netflix to keep you entertained while they do their thing -- because you can never watch the same Star Trek movies over and over quite enough.
Dr. Shepard DeLong and Dental Assistant Anna are awesome people and dental artisans who make every visit a pleasure.
I highly recommend them!

I have really mixed reviews on this clinic. I went to Mint after 15 years with a different dentist because I wanted to stay closer to home.
Upon arrival, the dental hygienist took me to a dental CT machine. I expressed concern because my previous dentist had films on me and Mint had requested my records and I really like to limit my radiation exposure. The hygienist insisted that all patient's new to Mint need updated x-rays. Not understanding the difference between CT imagine and a regular x-ray, I begrudging agreed.
In retrospect, I should have refused to have this imaging done. A month

The office is really nice. The staff is really friendly. Almost everything was perfect. I went in to get my wisdom teeth removed, the procedure went by without anything major. There was just one thing, a few months later after everything is healed and the swelling goes down it turns out they went at it on my mouth like a bunch of 19th century miners. My teeth (my incisors and molars) are all kind of chipped.
Don't be fooled by the nice ambiance.
