Our philosophy at the Eye Surgery Center of Hinsdale is to provide an exceptional experience for patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures. Additionally, we are also accredited through the prestigious Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC).
A cataract is the clouding of an eye's lens. Cataracts form when the two dominant elements that make up our eye's lens, water and protein, "clump" together and block/blur vision. Difficulty seeing and driving in the evening, due to poor night vision or glare and halos around lights. Decreased ability in other activities and sports, such as golfers having difficulty seeing the ball land.
Dry eye is a condition where there are not enough tears to lubricate the eye. Tears lubricate, nourish, and wash the eye, all of which are essential for maintaining eye health and clear vision. Without the beneficial moisture and cleansing components provided by sufficient tears, patients with untreated dry eye are at risk for developing serious complications such as infection, inflammation, pain, ulcers, and decrease of vision.
One of the most common symptoms of cataracts is foggy or distorted vision. It may feel like you're looking through a fogged-up window, and you may notice it becomes increasingly difficult to see while you read or drive a car, especially at night. The cataract minimizes the amount of light that can reach the retina of your eye.

Dr. Smith is the best. His friendly disposition is only superceded by his knowledge about his craft. I would highly recommend anyone who needs an expert eye doctor to visit Dr. Smith.

I had a corneal transplant done by Dr. Smith back in 2005. My vision is better with glasses. I would like to go back and see him but he doesn't accept Medicaid.

They were able to meet with me quickly as they had a last minute cancellation. The office was very nice, clean and well laid out. The desk staff were exceptionally friendly, patient and helpful. The nurses were great and helped me be at ease. I really appreciated Dr Smith’s demeanor and approach. It was a very positive experience.

If I could I would put -5 Stars, I can only imagine how the service is based on the RUDE OLD LADY that answers the telephone. She definitely needs to get a job that does not require any interaction with people ANIMALS only!!! Very unprofessional, extremely rude, beyond racist, disrespectful you name it SHE IS IT!!! NOT a patient and NEVER will be. We are new to the area and in need of a NEW doctor, the only reason we contacted this office was because of the great reviews but clearly a bad idea!!! Very disturbing, I am so glad we found this out before we even made an appointment!

The technicians and office ladies were great. Very sweet. The doctor was awful. He did not explain things at all. He was extremely rude and patronizing. He ordered several extra test without explain why and basically shooed me out the door after barely 5 minutes and zero explaination. Absoluly would not recommend this place.

I've been seeing Dr. Smith for a number of years with my contacts and annual checkups, so when I developed cataracts, he had my confidence, and we scheduled my surgery for cataract removal, replacement and laser to correct my stigmatism. The pre-op and post-op exams were very through and the staff extraordinary. I've seen some less than stellar reviews, but this was not my experience and I am pleased with the outcome.

This is a very patient doctor. He is efficient and since he is so accomplished there is no fussing around. He gets right to the point but kindly! Someone mentioned his being a misogynist WHAT? Never. He is so kind must be mistaken with another dr. The staff has new and longer term employees who make every effort to let you know they remember you. They are also efficient so don't be misled by efficiency being abrupt. You deal with the public day in and day then tell me how you would be.

The tech staff is very professional and efficient.

After my daughter was prescribed the wrong prescription for her glasses by Dr. Smith, she returned on October 2, 2018 to have another refraction done. It too was not the correct prescription. At that point she requested a refund. His office required that she return for a third time which resulted in yet another prescription that was not correct. As she attempted to explain her concern for the unsatisfactory service, the practice administrator, Nanci LaBracio, spoke to her in a VERY condescending and disrespectful manner. She later called and stated that Dr. Smith had approved her refund.

Third time here, again the front end staff is very extremely rude.
The doctors in this area need to find a better place, such as a hospital. to perform their surgery.

Better yet, this place needs to get a new front end staff. Fire them, they are horrible.

If your surgeon uses this ace ask for another location.

My daughter and I love Dr. Smith. The office staff is highly undesirable. Just got hung up by the office manager, she yelled at me for not paying last years bill, and stated my insurance company sent an EOB that my bill was put towards the deductible. I called the insurance company and learned they had not submitted correctly, that our eye exams are covered and would be paid if the office would submit the billing correctly. Beware the office staff is awful, unfriendly, do not know there jobs. You will love Dr. Smith, but will get a headache just dealing with nastiness of the staff. Another plus

The office and office staff are very professional: it's a well-oiled machine, for sure. Dr. Perry seems very sharp and very skilled. I appreciated his expertise, but not his demeanor. He's an aboveboard misogynist.

I saw the negative reviews and felt compelled to write a review for dr smiths practice. I have been going to see dr smith for decades. His practice is professional and very knowledgable in their field. I have severe eye site and i mean very severe i wouldnt trust my eyes with anyone else. I am very pleased with dr smiths attention to detail and his clear communications of his path to correcting my vision along with feedback about other options. The only issue my wife and i have ever had with his practice is the semi unprofessionalism of some of the front desk staff but honestly they may or may

I called Smith- Perry Eye Center because I lost vision in my left eye for about two minutes. I have seen Dr. Smith for routine eye visits in the past so his office was a natural choice.
When I called his office the woman that answered the phone really calmed my nerves about my loss of vision and told me to come right over. I was so relieved they didn't make me wait until the end of the day (which is how my family Dr. handles emergencies)
When I arrived the staff seemed to remember me and I was greeted as an old friend.
I was soon able to see Dr. Smith who examined my eyes and diagnosed

I am a horrible patient - anxious that I might go blind like my mom. I salute Dr Smith & staff for their patience with me and wisdom in their treatment. I sure would not like to work with people like me. They are a gift from God.

I decided not to go with my vision plan and just use my medical insurance for my doctor visits and then pay out of pocket, rather my Health Flex Spending plan for my eyeglasses.

My co worker originally recommended Dr Smith as I live a few towns over so the location is convenient. Appointments are always running on schedule when I've been there for my visits, the office is clean, but I will have to chime in on another review here about the desk staff. I don't know if medical offices are where some of them should be working, but ... I've experienced better. This past visit, no greeting

My experiences with Smith-Perry has gone from disappointing to downright dreadful. I would actively recommend avoiding Smith-Perry.

Start with walking in the door: the office is clean, staff friendly and professional. OK, good so far!

Now let's move into the eye exam. To start you are seated along the wall with a long group of other individuals waiting to see the doctor. Three, five, even six other patients are lined up and its clear that the system is designed to optimize "production" for the medical practice, not designed to optimize quality of care. Dr. Smith is great. I absolutely love going to him. However, the front desk staff there is 100% terrible and make the overall experience God awful. First offense was when they tried to bill me three times for one office visit. After explaining to them (and providing a receipt) they still claimed I didn't pay. This went on for over a year until finally I just gave in and paid the office visit fee, even though I had a receipt showing I had already paid it.

Second offense (and their last) was this past visit. I ordered my contacts through them and asked if I could have it shipped to my

Wow! I'm able to see, read, and drive without eyeglasses or contacts for the first time in 71 years. This practice is professional and courteous, and while Dr. Smith may not be able to work a miracle for everyone, I'd recommend him. I have a bad family history of age- related eye disease. He carefully explained the progress cataract surgery has made since my experience with my Mom and put me at ease. I passed the driver's test the day after my second surgery. Can't say enough.
