Housing Initiative Partnership
Homeless advocate Mosi Harrington (at left) is pictured with Founding Board Members Mary Griffin (2nd from left) and Charlene Brisco (2nd from right, in hat). They recruited a small but vocal group of neighborhood activists who were equally frustrated about the lack of housing options their working clients could afford in Prince George's County.

They decided to pool their resources together to collectively help low-income families secure affordable, healthy and safe housing. Thus, HIP was born! HIP is founded by Mosi Harrington and a small group of social workers and homeless advocates in the basement of a local church. HIP is formally incorporated as a private, nonprofit organization, dedicated to serving low- and moderate-income residents of Prince George's County.

Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc. (HIP) is an innovative, green nonprofit housing developer and counseling agency dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods. HIP believes that every person should have affordable, healthy, and safe housing.

We pursue this vision by building affordable apartments and homes, and providing a full range of housing and financial counseling services to renters, homebuyers, and homeowners to help them realize their housing goals.
HIP's administrative personnel, development staff, and several housing counselors are located at our main office in Hyattsville. We offer Homeownership Workshops, Foreclosure Prevention and Financial Capability coaching, and one-on-one housing & rental counseling at this location. Spanish speakers are available.
The goal is to successfully identify and match renters who are seeking affordable housing options with homeowners who have attractive and safe spare bedrooms in their homes, or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property, to rent long-term. The homeowners must live in the home full time to participate.
Homeownership has long been central to building wealth and achieving personal security. At the same time, homeownership comes with considerable risk, as was made crystal clear during the recent housing crisis. Preparation is the best insurance against that risk, and is the key to becoming a successful homeowner.
