Here at Harbor Family Eye Care, we know how important proper eye care is. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of service so you can have the vision you deserve. We truly believe in routine eye examinations so that you can see as clearly as possible. Once you have to get glasses or contacts, it is even more important to watch the health of your eyes.
We understand that your first visit to the eye doctor can feel overwhelming and we try to accommodate all new patients with a comfortable and organized facility. Our goal is to cover everything you need with a full and efficient assessment, but without waiting to see the doctor. There is a $25 fee for cancellations made within 24 hours.
At Harbor Family Eye Care, we offer comprehensive exams that cover all aspects of your vision and eye health. We start with questions regarding your daily life and any symptoms you may be experiencing at home or at work. We also take record of your vision, medications, and overall health. Then our optometrists perform a visual exam to take a look at your eye and eyelids.
When choosing contacts, we will go over your options to decide the best type of lenses for your eyes, especially if you have any conditions that don't make you a good candidate for regular contact lenses. Regular contact lenses are the easiest to fit. During your pre-fitting exam, we will take many measurements to determine the size you need.

Contact and glasses exam.
The exam itself was fine. A few minor hiccups here and there but afterwards oh my god! My trial lenses were the wrong prescription. It was because they didn’t have my exact prescription and I was warned of this. Fine no big deal. Anyways I wanted a copy of my glasses and contact prescription to shop online for frames they don’t have. Better deals. So in the bag with my trials comes this prescription. Cool. I go online to order using the prescription and CANNOT SEE! I then email the office and I’m sent another prescription as if it got mixed up. Then when I pick

First visit was great. Here I am not even six months later, needing another eye exam out of medical necessity and I can’t get a return phone call. This practice must be doing so well that they don’t need patients. Very unprofessional. I’d hoped to support black-owned business and I loved Dr Ramsay’s friendly and optimistic outlook, but if I can’t get a return call, I can’t return.
Update: second visit went well. I had no interaction with the receptionist who has the bad attitude, so no complaints there! Dr Ramsay was thorough and pleasant as usual. I’m not sure why I was told there

Since Covid started, I decided to finally make the change from my previous eye doctor in VB to one closer to my home in Portsmouth. Dr. Ramsey and her staff were very welcoming and friendly. Dr. Ramsey herself was very easy to talk to and open to explaining the specific care I was receiving and how it related to my extreme nearsightedness.
Masks wear worn by all staff members and hand sanitizer & wipes were readily available in every room.

To begin, Dr. Ramsey was great and front desk staff was great. However when I went to check out to order my glasses and contacts, the young man CJ insisted that I was covered for only one or the other. So I order glasses and leave. I got ahold of my insurance company to confirm with them. They call and speak to CJ who then proceeded to tell my insurance that I'm only covered for one of the two and that my insurance company was wrong. Also, come to find out he had charged me for things that was covered under my insurance. So I come back to get my refund and CJ is short and rude with me. With how

When I walked in I was not greeted. The floors are filthy, dirt and grime everywhere. Looks like they haven't been cleaned in months.
The receptionist had a bad attitude and was very disrespectful. The didn't even know our names and mentioned the wrong insurance.
Over the phone they said they accepted our insurance, we got in there and then told us they wouldn't accept us, because the insurance card had my dads name on it. We are retired military.
Even though we weren't seen, it was bad experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The staff seriously dropped the ball. I ordered contacts and paid at the beginning of the month 10 days later I called and left a message to follow up when my contact might be in. I went away and when I got back I still did not receive a call. I called them and they told me they 1 couldn't find my payment and 2 don't see an order for contacts. I told them the date my card was charged. They finally found the invoice but said the contacts were never ordered. They said they would order now as a rush. I called a few days later and again was told they didnt know anything about the order.

Dr. Ramsey is a wonderful Optometrist! I happened upon her as I was searching for a doctor for my 8-year-old daughter. My daughter has special needs and Dr. Ramsey was amzing with her. She never got frustrated with my daughter, despite the difficulty she had getting my daughter to stay focused. My daughter loved her:). Since our visit, who had been under the care of a different Optometrist, decided she wanted to get contacts. I took her to see Dr. Ramsey, as I was very impressed with her during our first visit, and she was just as amazing with my other daughter. Contacts can be difficult
