In 1940, a Ford factory-trained mechanic from Kansas named Merle "Smitty" Smith moved to San Diego with his wife Edith. Before WWII broke out, he worked as the Foreman of Electrical Maintenance for the aircraft manufacturing company known as Convair. As the men on his shift were drafted to the war they were replaced by very capable women.

This business came highly recommended and now we know why!!
Although, they are not close to us we thought it best to try them out.
We needed an oil change and an inspection of our brakes that had been giving us a grinding sound when they were applied.
Oil change - Great
Brakes needed to have new brake pads and to turn Dow the rotors.
That's it! We were in fear of needing new brakes but Smitty saved the day. It's also so wood to be established with a HONEST mechanic!

I cannot say enough amazing things about this shop! Alex, Beto, Jay, and the entire team are incredible, their customer service is above the rest! As of today, they have worked on all of my vehicles! I have been having some trouble with older cars that were on their way out all year, and Smitty's has been so helpful in extending their lives, providing valuable recommendations, and completing the work in record setting time. My car had a few issues so I brought it in to Smitty's after hearing good things. They were able to fix everything up for an affordable price, and did a full inspection of the car. After inspection, they let me know my breaks were in poor condition and they were able to replace them the same day for a very fair price (I reached out to other places). Car is running great and I will definitely be going back! Great local auto shop.

My car is newer so luckily I don't need to get it serviced often, but Smitty's is my go to for everything. Everyone there is super nice and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable and they work fast. The online car diagnostic they send you is really convenient too. They get booked up quickly though, so definitely make an appointment. Also, they cleaned my filthy car windows right before I picked it up!

I've been getting my cars serviced by Smitty's for years. Mike and his team are the best of the best. Always friendly and professional service. They treat you like old friends. I brought my car in for an oil change and they provided me with a complete check-up for my car. I'm thinking of buying a new car. Now I know what needs to be done before I sell it. In all the years I've been going to Smitty's, they never steered me wrong.

Another 5-star review for Smitty's. This time Sergio is the Star. My Lexus CT200h had some issues. They were related to the Hybrid parts of the car. My fear was that it would be big $$$. The car was making a crazy sound and the EV motor wasn't happening. Aaaahhhgggg! Sergio delivered and solved it quickly. His expertise quelled my fears. I interrogated and interviewed him so as to better understand what happened and what I needed to do moving forward. He is articulate and considered one of the most knowledgeable academically at Smitty's. His answers were unbiased and non-sales-like

I was told my evaporative canister needed to be replaced, and I was quoted $350 parts and $150 labor over the phone. Thus, approx. $500.
When I picked it up, the bill was over $700. The difference was the cost of the diagnostic, which they never told me about. Also, I've never been charged for a diagnostic before.
I then looked online to see what a typical canister replacement would cost, and the high estimate was $230.
Smitty's got their one chance with me, and that's it.

This place is AMAZING!! I dropped my car off in the morning and was offered coffee and a ride home. They were so nice and receptive of my issue. The inspection they sent me on my phone was off the charts! They had pictures of my vehicle and detailed everything that was going on with the car. Some things I knew about and some things I didn't! I was so grateful. The representative was not pushy, just super informative and understanding. He let me know what needed to be done and what could wait a visit or two.
