Addiction and other psychiatric disorders result from malfunction of the circuits of the brain due to genetics, adverse experiences, and distortion of purpose and connection with oneself. The best treatment is focused on restoring normal function to these circuits through a combination of medications, therapy, and a focus on total body health.
Because mental health and physical health are interconnected, treatment should be comprehensive. We offer a comprehensive outpatient Buprenorphine Treatment Program for opioid (pain pill) addiction.

Services
Our groups are led by an experienced therapist. Insurance may cover all or a portion of the cost of participating, but many of our patients pay a small fee out-of-pocket. Please call to ask about specific costs and to register. This group is led by a therapist and is comprised of a small group of patients who are in various stages of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
Barrier Islands offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) through NeuroStar. NeuroStar uses TMS to target key areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). During a TMS treatment session, a magnet similar in strength to that used in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine is used to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood.
We offer a comprehensive outpatient Buprenorphine Treatment Program for opioid (pain pill) addiction. Our program includes Suboxone induction and maintenance with close monitoring. Our physicians are experts in prescribing Suboxone. Group therapy specifically designed for patients taking Suboxone is incorporated into the program, and individual therapy is offered as well.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), using evidence based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as its core, will help you more effectively manage extreme patterns of thought and behavior in order to achieve a greater balance in life. DBT is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is concerned with the mental process of perception, memory, judgment and reasoning.
When you call, our staff can answer questions about our services, fees, and insurance. They will ask you to give a brief description of the problems you are experiencing. This is in order to match you with the appropriate provider. A deposit based on type of service will be required at the time you schedule your initial appointment.

Don't trust any of the front office staff. They'll go months telling you you don't owe any money, Have the woman that heads their billing department tell you you have a 0 balance, She moves on to a different job and then all of a sudden you owe all kinds of money. The front office staff are completely incompetent and rude. Do not believe a word they say, get it in writing!!!!

Once I was finally able to make an apt, Dr Rodriguez put me on medication that left me absolutely not functioning (sleeping 20+ hours of the day). After refusing to try something different, she recommended I get a second opinion. After I did, and was switched to a medication that worked tremendously for me, I arrived at my follow up apt only for Dr Rodriguez to literally kick me out of her office for being honest about what I had been taking. I’m not sure if her ego was hurt that I was doing amazing on the other meds, but her bedside manner and professionalism was absolutely atrocious. I’m

Hard to get an appointment set up, no one ever answers the phone. Should really update their scheduling options, online scheduling would be nice since you can’t get anyone on the phone. Would make it easier on them and the patients. I hate to give it a bad review since I enjoy who I see. Just really writing this review in regards to the scheduling I’m constantly having an issue with. Seems a lot of patients are complaining about this in the reviews. I hope they fix this issue soon.

I've seen Julia Rodriguez for years. I've had over 10 psychiatrists in my life and she is hands down the absolute best. You can tell she really understands and cares. She is also one of the only Spanish speaking psychiatrists in the area. Sometimes they do get delays but as much as she's helped me, I say just give them a chance. I have also seen a counselor here and she was wonderful. As of this post they just opened the place next door for the doctors while the rest stay at the original building. Staff has always been outstanding. I cannot recommend this place enough
