Psychiatric Intervention Medical Associates is committed to providing high quality, evidence-based therapies for depression, anxiety, psychoses, obsessive compulsive disorder and related conditions that have not responded to first-line treatments such as medications and psychotherapy. We feel privileged that patients, families and loved ones ask us for help during the most challenging times of their lives.
Dr. Goodman is the Director of the Division of Interventional Psychiatry at Sutter Center for Psychiatry and President of PIMA. He has specialized in the treatment resistant patient for 30 years, utilizing interventional psychiatric techniques to help patients when other treatment modalities have failed to achieve adequate results.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood. These pulsed magnetic fields may have a positive effect on the brain's neurotransmitters levels. Treating depression with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), may provide an alternative depression treatment for those who have not benefited from prior antidepressant medication.
Ketamine Infusion Therapy is a new treatment modality for the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder and possibly Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD and anxiety disorders There are many research studies examining this drug, and drugs similar to Ketamine for various psychiatric conditions. Currently, the treatment must be done by an intravenous infusion.
All patients are contacted initially by phone for a preliminary discussion about goals and therapeutic options. Following this contact, a formal consultation is scheduled. Gather information from significant others, psychiatrists, therapists and primary care physicians. Most patients referred to Psychiatric Intervention Associates are taking one or more psychiatric medications to help manage depression, mood swings, anxiety and other symptoms.

This man took advantage of my 2 older parents, my dad was under grave distress, and was given information that was false about the amount of time my mother would have to do these horrific treatments, not only was my mother not a proper candidate for this procedure, her medical history wasn't even taken into consideration, he told my parents that this is an avenue to take to get my mom off of medication, not only did he do treatments he overloaded her with medication, she was only supposed to have 10 treatments and for a very short period my mom seemed ok, my dad wanted to stop the treatments, but

Dr. Goodman is a fantastic psychiatrist. He is caring and understanding. I am currently undergoing TMS treatment for depression that I have had for the last 4 plus years. It is working and I am feeling more positive and my mood has uplifted without antidepressants. I would say if you are struggling with depression that you should contact Dr. Goodman at Sutter for a consult. My results have been phenomenal.

My wife, PJ, has been a patient of Dr. Goodman for nearly three years. She suffered with deep depression for many years, until she met Dr. Goodman and E. C. T. Starting with treatments three times weekly, she is now being treated every three months and is better than she has been in years. Dr. Goodman is thoroughly professional, yet more caring than most physicians. From our experience I would recommend Dr. Goodman and
E. C. T. for anyone whose depression appears hopeless.

Dr. Goodman has helped me so much. I've had severe depression for over 30 yrs. It just got worse and worse and my medications would frequently stop working and need to be changed around. This gave me temporary relief for a while, but then I'd fall back into t he same place worse each time. I was so sick this last time nothing was working medication wise. I ended up being referred to Dr. Goodman to be hospitalized and start ECT treatments. I was terrified, but the hospital staff talked me into trying it. Surprisingly it has changed my life completely around for the better. I can't ever remember

Dr. Goodman is an amazing doctor. He has truly saved my life. I have been a patient of Dr. Goodman for several years and have received over 100 ECT treatments. As a result of Dr. Goodman and ECT, I have not been hospitalized in years. I was able to go back to work after several years on disability and now I have a good career again and am very successful. My case is very complicated and challenging and Dr. Goodman has been instrumental in finding the right medications and continued ECT treatments to keep me in remission. My depression and bipolar disorder will never be cured. But through ECT and

My husband had been suffering a prolonged manic/depressive episode for months that had caused him to want to end his life late March 2013. His Psychiatrist had made every attempt to manage his Bipolar-1 symptoms through medication “cocktails” including prescribing dosages on prescriptions that he would have to fight the insurance company to approve (We are blessed to have this wonderful dedicated doctor still as a part of our support system!). It was at this time that the doctor recommended ECTs as a means to help alleviate the recurring mania he was having trouble managing. We had always thought

I have been a psychiatric nurse for 27 years. I've worked various psychiatric facilities and I've had both good and not so good experiences with them. For the past 13 years I've worked for Sutter Center for Psychiatry in Sacramento where Dr. Goodman also works. Like many other persons I had a dark view of ECT therapy until I saw the extraordinary success that Dr. Goodman of Sutter was achieving with his patients. Never had I seen so many people showing improvement and recovery from depression and other psychiatric illnesses. I am proud to be part of such a caring organization which includes Dr

I have been treated by Dr. Goodman for 1 1/2 years. ECT was the reason for the referral. Although it was a frightening treatment Dr. Goodman's explaination of the procedure, risks and benefits put me at ease. When ECT was no longer an option, he was relentless in pursuing the insurance company to allow for an alternative treatment. He has given me hope for stability and has carried that hope for me at times. Dr. Goodman stays on top of the research for his specialty - treatment resistent depression. I have always felt treated as an individual, not just "a patient". His commitment to and his compassion

I have been a patient of Dr. Goodman's for almost 2 years now. I was diagnosed with severe depression and medications alone were not helping. I had seen several other psychiatrists before Dr. Goodman, but none of them ever seemed to help me feel better. Once I learned about ECT, I was excited to start treatment and started feeling better. Dr. Goodman is a really good doctor and always takes the time to explain things and answer all questions. He also returns messages and phone calls pretty quickly.I have felt so much better after starting ECT and couldn't have asked for a better doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr. Goodman for a year now receiving ECT for severe depression. I am happy to say that I am being weaned off of ECT at this time and I feel that it has been very beneficial for me, along with counseling. Dr. Goodman is a very pleasant, patient, well informed psychiatrist who takes the time to listen to you and answers your questions in terms you can understand. The staff he has working with him is professional and kind. I have reccomended Dr. Goodman to both friends and family.
