Constructed in 1925 as part of a resort known at the time as Lake Bethesda Resort, Bethesda Lake is a spectacular spring fed mountain lake that is now privately owned by Stonehill Cottages. It is CATCH AND RELEASE only. It is located on Stonehill Cottages property and available exclusively for guests of Stonehill Cottages' recreational pleasure.
Fishing in the lake is CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. Life jackets are required. Kayaks and pedal boats are available for your use in the lake. Swimming is allowed in the lake as well as the "Bethesda Creek" swimming hole that resides at the base of the waterfall on the eastern end of the lake There are many species of fish in the lake including largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, rewear, triploid carp and koi (the koi aren't for fishing).
Bring or rent and ATV / UTV and ride in with immediate direct access to endless "legal to ride" forest service roads as well as quick "ride in access" to the famous Wolf Pen Gap trail system. We are a 5 mile ride from the West trail head but you can legally ride to any of the Wolf Pen Gap trail heads from our cabins.
You can legally ride into the west trail head of the Wolf Pen Gap trail system from the location of our cottage/cabin at Stonehill Cottages. Stonehill Cottages is only a 5 minute ride from the west trail head. Wolf Pen Gap is a local scenic ATV trail system with 39 miles of trails. There are three different trailheads that provide parking.
Bethesda Lake is on our property and you as the guest of Stonehill Cottages have the exclusive access to the lake to use it as you please - fishing, kayaking, etc. Multiple highly recommended restaurants located ten minutes or less from the cottages even though the cottages are located on the boundary of the National Forest and are in a very rural setting.
