Had a nice lunch here today. It is a little pricy but everything tasted fresh and the Kook & Black Cod was great. The service was decent and the atmosphere was cute (very Hawaiian hut vibe).

4/5 If you don't mind paying extra to eat in this area, then I would say it is worth stopping by and grabbing a bite.

This is our go to spot whenever we are in the Carlsbad/Encinitas area. The sushi id great and tastes fresh. The staff is friendly and attentive and the sushi chefs are great and make wonderful recommendations. They recommend rolls not on the menu according to your likes. Last night, We had the Special Hawaiian and the Dirty Blonde. Both great!!

One of my wife and my new favorite Sushi spots in the Carlsbad/Encinitas area. So far everything we've ordered has been delicious and they have some unique items. We recently had wagyu beef nigiri-style and it was like eating beef-flavored butter. It is definitely on the pricier side, but worth it as a treat over your typical sushi fare.

Fresh sushi, cold beer and hot sake! What more could you want? The atmosphere is great, it feels very local and we get warm hellos every time we eat there (which is often). I like the jalapeño bombs and the ramen. My girlfriend who is a little bit of a sushi snob, is always happy with the fresh fish and sashimi plates.

Most delicious sushi!! I'm totally addicted. The crispy rice is awesome. My favorite rolls are the kook and the sunset. Sashimi is fresh and melts in your mouth. HIGHLY recommend!!

Super disappointed in this place. My husband and I tried three different rolls and the lobster appetizer and didn't like any of them. We got the grand view, the sunset, and the stone steps. They all had very weird flavor and all the rolls were minimum $17- super expensive considering they weren't even large rolls. The seared scallops on the sunset roll were definitely not seared at all.

Overall, will stick with hooked on sushi which is $14 for a much larger roll and flavors are more in line with what we like.

Food was decent. Service was not great. They forgot 1 of 3 rolls and tried to charge us for it before we brought it to their attention.

I was excited for a small hike in the wall space among all the bougie Leucadia spots.

Wile the fish tasted fresh the portions of everything we got were paltry and overpriced. The staff was inattentive and made us wait for a WHILE before they realized we were ready for our check.

In fact... I'm waiting right now!!

Stopped by to have some good sushi and sashimi. Good service. The spicy tuna was a bit off but everything else was good.

Wow. We just moved here and we wanted a new taste and new vibe. We googled sushi in Encinitas and this place popped up. And I must say we have a tasteful experience from the waitress to the food. The saimin wasn't like Hawaii but it was pleasing to the palette. Hamachi Kama was cooked to perfection and the Beacon roll well it topped it off. Leah was very personable and sweet. Mos def would recommend this place

Make a reservation (by phone). This place is always busy and for good reason. Came on a Saturday night (with a reservation.) We were seated in one of their alleyway tables, which was a surprising hit. I liked it out there because it is covered, has heaters, is way quieter than inside, and cozy for tables for two. I wouldn't recommend this place for parties of more than 4 people.

Ask for the craft sake menu; it's fascinating! We ordered a carafe and really enjoyed it.

Takoyaki appetizer was really delicious and something we had never tried before. I'd get it again just for the

Good quality sushi. Basic functional atmosphere, nothing special. Prices were quite high. Having eaten an hundreds of sushi places across the world, this one just felt overly priced for the sushi. Dont get me wrong, it's solid. But two pieces of tuna nigiri should not be over $14. Not many other close by options, so probably why they can charge so much.

Good sushi. The protein roll was great. My wife was hoping for more eel options on the menu (unagi is her favorite). A little pricey for what you get, but definitely a solid option.

Solid sushi option in Encinitas. Kind of stumbled on it by accident.

Favorites were the MOONLIT roll and BEACON roll. The BEACON being the favorite of the too.

Street parking.
Make reservations ahead of time.
Mostly informal.
Indoor dining and two patio tables. A bit crowded inside with some bar seating available.
Solid service. The chefs making the sushi are very friendly.

Great spot to chill and they have a great food. You might ask what's with the 2 star then? Well it's the servers, they are quite unprofessional and very cold to the customers. I believe that when eating out, the customer and the business must show respect with another there's this line in the middle that as a consumer and business owner that you need to meet.
On my visit here yesterday, we didn't get to experience that. My wife and I felt the service was rushed and without consideration. Although the food is good, the whole reason of going out is the experience and since we didn't have a good

Satisfied.
Wife loved the shishito peppers. Yellowtail sashimi was awesome.
Grandview roll was solid. Salmon was of a thicker cut. Plenty of pieces.
Hangover noodles were disappointing. All the toppings were very good, even if the chashu was thick cut it was still tender. However the broth was not great and noodles were mushy despite the broth being packaged separately. If the noodles didnt have the unusual flavor and peppery looking bits in them i would have figured they were overcooked top ramen.
Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Overall the spot was ok.

I am giving this place 2 stars only because our waitress was so nice. The sushi was atrocious! The rolls were full of rice and fish that was not high quality at ALL. I do NOT recommend eating here. The fish quality is sub par and the miso soup was better than any of the sushi or rolls. Extremely OVERPRICED for the lack of quality. I mean come on, we're right at the ocean, how hard is it to get fresh fish?

My son picked Kai Ola for his birthday dinner. With it's prime location in a gentrified block of Funky Leucadia this restaurant is a hip and cool restaurant catering to the local youth, hipsters, and surfers. I love the way they named the rolls on their menu after local surf spots.

Our table of 4 sat outside and had a great server who brought us water immediately and let us ask questions about the menu which you pull up on a phone. I have a hard time reading small print and scrolling down many pages so I inquired about the hangover noodles which I ended up ordering. Others at the table tried

Great local sushi place. Extremely fresh, reasonable prices, and good service. Menu selection is a little limited, but everything tastes amazing. Small dining area, but everything is clean and organized. Best Poke bowl I’ve had was here. Very good sushi too!
