The Cottage Cafe on Calhoun Street in historic Old Town Bluffton, South Carolina, exemplifies old world charm and Southern hospitality. The Cottage that was built in 1868 by J.J. Carson, is known for his bravery in saving the life of General Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War battle of Chancellorsville.
Carson also organized the First Baptist Church of Bluffton, and services were held at the cottage until the church building was completed. Recently, the building was moved forward and renovated to its full potential. Today, the award winning Cottage serves fresh, scrumptious fare for breakfast, brunch, lunch, tea and dinner.

Absolutely charming ambiance, we sat on the porch for lunch and the place is adorable. Our waitress was friendly although slow. Pickle Bloody Mary was very good. I had the shrimp and grits. The additions were nice, the bacon was crispy and perfect, and I liked the addition of onions and mushrooms! The grits themselves had an off consistency, pretty pasty and very very bland, I had to add a bunch of salt, pepper, and hot sauce…reason for the deducted star. My friend has a fried green tomato blt she said was very good. The house chips were also delicious, kind of a salt pepper and vinegar I think

The Cottage was highly recommended for their out of this world deserts and tomato pie.
The tomato pie is not what you'd expect. It had no resemblance of a traditional tomato pie (pizza).
It's more like a pot pie with chunks of tomatoes and cheeses with parsley. Sadly no basil but we asked for it to be added to the top. Silly me I'd thought they would add it AFTER cooking not during.
The pie itself was tasty but if you think this is a traditional tomato pie you'll be surprised.
The Monte Cristo sandwich was tasty but greasy and very little cheese and meat. It was a panini so it was not deep

Always a great time at this welcoming little sweet spot! "Shrimp & Grits & Eggs Y'all" is delicious. Another fav is the "Juevos Mamasita," then again everything is really good. Don't even get me started on all the amazing dessert options!
The best part is the warm, sincere service with a smile. They have a wonderful team of people who make the experience even better! After I've had my fill, The Cottage is just a short walk to the waterfront.

We decided to give this place a try for breakfast, after walking by it many times, and I’m glad we did. The weather was perfect for dining on the patio and we didn’t have to wait to be seated at all. Our server was fantastic and the food was brought out in just 10 minutes or so. I order the corned beef hash over toast and my wife ordered the hammy eggs Benedict. Both were excellent.

Delicious, Charming, and Dog Friendly! I go there frequently for breakfast with my Walker Hound because of the good food and relaxing atmosphere. Dogs are welcome on the patio. It is more expensive for breakfast than other places, but I enjoy the better quality of the food as well as the good doggie menu. Service is friendly and efficient.

I’ve wanted to try the cottage for many years and we finally did on the 4th of July. It was just myself and my daughter and the prices were slightly astounding. There was nothing much that caught my eye on the brunch menu, but I ordered the beef dip sandwich that ended up being turkey? And my daughter ordered a waffle that was the red white and blue special. I thought my daughters waffle was the best thing we had but not sure why a waffle and fruit cost $17. My sandwich was tasty when dipped in aus ju, bit also not worth $17. Overall didn’t feel welcomed or attended to by our waitress. I would

Food was fabulous! We ordered the Jambalaya and the crab And seafood pie ( called something else). Both dishes were delicious. The Cottage is famous for their deserts so we split a piece of the Coconut Cottage cake. Worth the calories but too big - must share. One disappointment was that the beverages were served in styrofoam. I really prefer a mug for my coffee. Service was prompt, prices a bit high but experience was good.

My daughter and I stopped here for lunch at The Cottage while in Bluffton SC. We were promptly seated by the hostess at a nice table on the patio.
Our server was personable. After going over the menu and the specials, we decided to split the pimento shrimp and grits/$17.95 and one of the specials; a salad which consisted of a base of some kind of slaw and mixed greens, tossed in a chili line vinaigrette, topped with shrimp, salmon, avocado, edamame, blackberries, goat cheese and tomatoes/$21.95. The shrimp and grits were supposed to come with a side salad but since we had ordered the special,
