You do not need to have a diagnosed eating disorder to benefit from professional therapy. Eating disorders are frequently multifaceted, and I have found that a team approach yields the highest rate of success.
Alex Shimer has worked as a therapist at my day treatment program since 2009 and has been valuable to my company and our team. Alex can grasp the nuances of a difficult case, she can get involved in great details but also knows how to keep it simple and not get stuck in dead ends with her clients. With an excellent combination of skill, firmness and empathy, Alex helps each client contact and strengthen his or her healthy self.

Dr. Alex Shimer is a bright and kind therapist. Although she has both a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she doesn't have one of those pompous egos. When talking to her, it is as if she knows and understands exactly how you feel. She is especially helpful with hopelessness and self-esteem for someone who is self-critical and/or feels criticized. It is as if she sees the good in you when you can't see if for yourself. She has the ability to explore how you could have done things differently without making you feel like you made a mistake
