Mixed greens, spinach, romaine, kale, or arugula salads made daily with all fresh ingredients as well as homemade cold salads. Hickory Tree Delicatessen was founded in 1978 by Lou Napolitano, his wife Joann, and father, Ralph. Almost forty years later, the deli is still very much a family owned place with Lou and Joann's daughter and son-in-law, John and Stephanie still working in the store.
They're best known for their Sloppy Joe sandwich, which was an old family recipe, passed down by Lou's father-in-law. They pride themselves on servicing the surrounding area with excellent service and great food.

This deli is definitely one of my favorites! The service is fast, the staff is polite, they always have fresh food. They have a full menu, many many different options. In a very good location with lots of parking which is important for a deli especially during breakfast and lunch hours. Prices are a little on the higher end compared to other delis but you get what you pay for. I love this place.

Bangin sloppy joe sammys!!
Pastrami Joe we got was amazing. Perfect amount of dressing to meat to bread ratio. If it wasn't so far from us we would eat there once a week. Great nearby park to have your lunch at too.
Our pro tip is grab a side of fries from the pizzeria next door. They don't sell any here.

I've had sandwiches from here before, albeit years ago. I got the Turkey Sloppy Joe and a side of slaw. The sandwich had plenty of meat, but was lackluster, far from what I remembered. The bread didn't cut it. The dressing and slaw below par. The side of slaw didn't taste fresh, and had a bitter aftertaste. I've heard other sandwiches in here are really good, I'll give it another try, but I'll stay away from the sloppy Joe.

I am going to temporarily give this place five stars, becauswe I think I will like it.
I had the good fortune to receive a $10 gift certificate as a new resident of Madison, and went there this morning. I had the "Hickory Burrito" for $7 which was a burrito with eggs, onions, cheese , and chili.
The chile overwhelmed the wrap. I was not able to taste anything else. There was nothing about this that would bring me back.
BUT....the rest of the restaurant seems great...from homemade roast beef to homemade salads, I will try again.
I am hoping that my next experience here meets my expectations

Solid deli. Wide variety of high quality offerings. Quick service, personable staff, tons of parking. Not the cheapest place, but hey, it's in tony Chatham. The only stumble (and it's a common one in the area) is that they don't slice the rye for their sloppy joes on a meat slicer, so it's about 1/3 too thick-making the sandwich too much of a mouthful. Using the presliced rye takes away from a great sloppy joe. I usually try to pair a stop here with a visit to the nearby Green Village Packing abbatoir (check their retail hours though). All in all, this place delivers
