It began with one of those half serious, half joking comments after dinner and several bottles of Cabernet when someone says, you know, one of these days we should. In most instances, these ideas are quickly forgotten in the next morning's bright sunshine of reality. The land, aka the Cain Family Farm, was actually founded in Northwest Montgomery County, Indiana as a dairy farm.
Sugar Creek is a clear running tributary stream of the Wabash River which travels in a generally northeast to southwest direction as it cuts across west-central Indiana. The source lies in Tipton County, Indiana and the entire river length to the Wabash confluence is approximately 90 miles. Sugar Creek is one of Indiana's best canoeing rivers.
No, tastings and glasses are $7. We do offer a 5% discount to all guests in the rented space if the group purchases 6 bottles and 10% discount if the group purchases 12 bottles. Yes, dogs are allowed. We provide water and dog treats for our guest's pets. The only restriction is if food is being served during rental event, that time would be off limits.
The growing of grapes and making the wine is a long term undertaking. The vines require a minimum of 3 years to become established and produce fruit, which is all weather dependent, so three years may not be adequate. Assuming three years works, after the first harvest, it can take up to another 6-24 months to crush, press, ferment, barrel age and finally bottle.
This could include baby or wedding showers, book club, business meetings or a special dinner with friends. There are several options depending upon your business or entertainment plans. Groups of up to 14 can be comfortable seated in the Class VI Club Room to accommodate a private meeting, or dinner function.
