We are open! Order online or order inside the cafe for takeout. We have a daily selection of baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and a variety of vegetarian specialty dishes. Our coffee beans are roasted locally and in small batches. Peter, the owner and founder of Haymarket roasts multiple times a week.
Services
The cafe is named in honor of Haymarket Square in Chicago where, in 1886, working men and women took to the streets on behalf of workers' rights, including the 8 hour work day. The "Haymarket affair" is generally considered significant as the origin of international May Day. It is with these hopes and ideals that have guided us in creating what the cafe has become today.
The account has been successful in providing meals for over 3 years now. Just last year we served over 4,500 meals, 88% of which was covered by our customers donating to the Common Account fund. We are augmenting this model to meet the precariousness of the times we are living in. We will be opening as a community kitchen where the meals will be on a donation basis only.
Early in the spring of 2017 we created what we call the Common Account. We wanted to try to address some of the issues in our town around homelessness, hunger and panhandling. There are many points of view on this subject, and even individually one's own vantage point changes. We wanted to address this in our own way, as members of our community, and as a small business that is partly sustained from selling food.

What stood out to me was the extent to which I wasn't helped. The older I get, the more invisible I become. There are many advantages to this, but restaurant service is not one of them. I couldn't get anyone's attention, and I had trouble reading the menu on the wall. I grabbed a prepared cold plate, but it had onions in it (allergies).
Nice people watching at the outdoor tables.

I decided to try a new place today. Unfortunately I was not impressed. My cappuccino was a latte and they dump their syrup into the coffee instead of measuring…like this is their standard practice. The food was not good or cooked all the way. The floors and counters were very dirty. I have no idea how they have passed health inspections. The staff was nice, but did not seem trained. I am sympathetic to staff shortages and understand the difficulties going on with the food industry these days, but I wanted others to have an accurate representation of what they can expect if they spend $30 on breakfast

Awesome food, atmosphere, and staff! While technically not offering the dine-in option yet, they have a nice coveted patio to enjoy the meal in the back. Big menu selection and one of the best omelettes I tried anywhere. And their coffee beans alone are worth the drive from the Boston area.
P.S. I only wish they added sugar-free options to their impressive selection of baked goods at some point!

Expertly prepared vegan and vegetarian food. Regardless of what the menu says they can make the burgers gluten free. Try them! The charred jalapeño is amazing and the burger doesn't taste like a bean burger.
Others in our party had the sumptuous and HUGE grilled cheese. That sandwich got rave reviews despite only getting half eaten. Lastly the curry and coconut was delicious and devoured quickly by another party member.

Haymarket Cafe is one of those places I found out about thanks to Yelp. It is a literal hole in the wall and very easy to miss. It's cradled between a book store, and another restaurant.
I enjoyed everything we ordered, but mostly their peanut butter and vegan chocolate cake.
You can either walk up to the counter and order, or you sit down at the table, and use your phone to order via the digital codes they have set up at each table which I thought was innovative and efficient.
The only reason they didn't get the full 5 stars is because they messed up our order a bit. They brought

Another Yelper said that the roasted cauliflower and tofu was SO good and a must-have for any vegan. I came to Haymarket following their advice, and I wish I hadn't. This is one of the worst vegan meals I have ever had, and certainly the worst of 2021.
The tofu is overly oily, the sweet potatoes and cauliflower are cold, there really is no texture to speak of, the lettuce is nothing special, and the salad altogether is an unhappy mess.
I don't give bad reviews. Haymarket merited one. Inside, it is nice but hard to hear employees. Downstairs, where food is picked up, there are absolutely

I wish I could give this cafe five stars because I do love it as a general establishment. I'm impressed by the sliding scale system they have in place and I think they do a good job with hosting events and supporting the community. I saw a rather nasty review down below complaining about the houseless people at Haymarket. This customer seems to have little compassion for other people and to me, it is a positive sign that they do not want to return to Haymarket.
My reasoning for the rather low rating lies within the fact that the food isn't actually that edible. I am a fan of their smoothies

Have liked haymarket for a while now they do a good job with food and there is creative stuff they put on the menu and the ingredients are local. As it's gotten more popular there are certain things they should consider doing differently. The big one is they should not just let loitering patrons and homeless just hang out all day, in particular the area downstairs by the door has been overtaken by these people who make the whole experience totally unpleasant and crowd out at least 4 tables for the full day making it impossible to find a seat at popular hours. Won't be coming back anymore

I understand this cafe may be a nice place to eat, but I'm basing my review on my coffee experience.
My family of 3 headed here to get warm drinks during a rainy First Night event. We headed right to the coffee bar and ordered a small black coffee, a hot chocolate, and an Americano.
It's probably my fault for not looking closely, but the "small" was barely a tiny 8 oz of coffee, similar to a dixie cup. I drink my coffee black, so added nothing but the plastic lid. There were no sleeves that fit this size hot drink, so I left with 2 napkins around my coffee dixie cup. The

If you're looking for a divey cafe with lots of character in the downtown area then the Haymarket Cafe is your place.
It's popular with the local students. Many of them can be found reading or typing on their laptops. How they do it is beyond me because the lighting is really really dark. My eyes would probably go blind.
The inside looks like it's been around for a hundred years, with lots of very cool looking black and white pictures hanging on the walls. It's not uppity. It's far from modern. It just has lots and lots of character. Yes it's sort of dark and dingy

The Haymarket is a cozy two-level establishment that serves coffee, baked goods and meals with locally grown produce. The Haymarket has homemade gluten-free bread and the menu is mostly vegetarian/vegan. It's simple in appearance with coffee shop decor. The kitchen is in the bottom level while coffee is made upstairs.
I ordered the Shakshuka. This dish had potential spices that blended nicely with everything. The homefries were Jude pieces of potatoes with a tasty exterior and a soft interior. The chutney was delicious, especially with the homemade sourdough bread. The eggs had a

This place is a Northampton staple. As a Smith student, I come here sometimes to get some work done (when they aren't packed). Although sometimes the atmosphere is a bit too dimly lit and hot/humid to stay, and other times it's just perfect -- it really depends on the day.
Their food downstairs is good but just not my favorite compared to other Noho coffeeshop foods. I highly recommend the upstairs area for really good desserts/pastries, coffee and tea. However, again the coffee is hit or miss depending on the day. Something that is ALWAYS good, especially in the warmer seasons, is
