Laura as many call her, is a friendly, compassionate listener attentive to your vision care needs. She enjoys examining infants and children with a fun, creative style. Dr. Laura understands that there is more to vision than just seeing 20/20. As a former teacher, she is very passionate about working with children and adults who have vision problems that interfere with their ability to read, learn, and comprehend.
20/20 Isn't EverythingMost children have no idea how they are supposed to see. Therefore it is important that you know the signs that a vision problem is interfering with your child's ability to read and learn. One out of four children struggle with reading and learning because of undiagnosed vision problems.
Unfortunately, many people do not know the signs of vision problems that interfere with academic success. Most certainly, children rarely report they are having visual difficulties. There are physical clues that point to possible vision problems, but surprisingly, many of the symptoms that would indicate a person is having vision problems seem unrelated to vision.
Vision therapy is much like "physical therapy", but rather than treating the muscles of the body, it works on the eyes and visual system. It is an invaluable tool that has changed not only our patients' vision, but has improved many related areas of their lives as well. The first step of a vision therapy program is a thorough examination with Dr. Vasilakos to determine if vision therapy is the best course of care.

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

Dr. Laura Vasilakos is so kind, she got on the floor to play with my 1 year old. Her examination was thorough but fun and engaging. She is a natural with kids and my daughter had fun.
Her approach is developmental, viewing each child as an individual, and customizing the plan to each patient. Not a ‘one size fits all approach’ as other doctors we have seen have done.
I recommend any parent with eye health to see Dr. Lara!

My son had failed the picture test at the pediatrician. We came in to make sure everything was okay. My son just turned four so I was a little nervous about how he would do. I can not say enough about this doctors office. The receptionist was extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Dr Laura went above and beyond to make sure my son was having fun and comfortable during the exam. She was so personable and explained everything. My son even asked if we could go back again 😂. I can not recommend her enough! Wonderful doctor and staff!

In a nutshell Dr Vasilakos changed my son’s academic life. We were first recommended to see her by the town’s OT. He was 6 then and had trouble tracking and would see letters inverter in as we would see in the mirror. This affected his reading and comprehension and math skills. Being a teacher myself Meeting Dr. Vasilakos first she was professional, had to thorough knowledge of the eye and issues. My daughter was 9 years old and was reading at 1st grade level. Homework was extremely for both of us because she dreaded reading. The school wasn’t helpful. Very impressed. Dr. Vasilakos is an expert in gas permiable contact lenses which have improved my vision substantially. They take a while to get used to, but I've found they give me much better vision than glasses or soft contacts.
She is excellent for the entire family- children, adults and seniors. She fully explained what she is doing and what the options are with the pros and cons.
Dr. V in my opinion is one of the best Optometrists on the South Shore.
