Have you ever ordered a pair of shoes you fell in love with online? You eagerly open the box when it arrives and are thrilled to discover they look even better than the picture. You can't wait to wear them. But as soon as you try them on and walk around, your feet start hurting! With each step, you realize your lovely shoes just don't fit!
You finally lie down after an exhausting day, hoping to get a good night's sleep. But you toss and turn, your eyes still wide open, your muscle still tense. Your thoughts race-you cannot turn off your brain! The difficulty falling asleep has become all too frequent, and you wake up feeling depleted and frustrated yet again.
When we think of trauma, we picture someone who experienced or witnessed a life-threatening event, and of course, such an event is certainly traumatic. If you have been in an accident, were assaulted or lived through a natural disaster, such as a tornado or earthquake, you may struggle with flashbacks or other distressing trauma symptoms that impact your ability to enjoy life today.
Are you struggling with anxiety and perfectionism, expecting more of yourself than humanly possible? Now that your last child has left home, do you find yourself wondering what lies ahead after devoting yourself to parenting for the last decades? Are you going through a divorce and wondering how to heal from the heartbreak, unsure who you are after so many years of identifying as "Mrs."?
