Codey was met with the rapt attention of 1100 teens, as he spoke to their concerns about mental illness. Suicide is a difficult topic, but it's too important to ignore. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24. Despite a common belief that only teens and adults die by suicide, younger children can also be at risk.

Depression and suicide often coincide. Yet not everyone who is. Pledge to be Stigma Free-Promote public awareness, create conversations, and work towards overcoming stigmas, stereotyping, discrimination, and removing any barriers to recovery. Services
The Codey Fund for Mental Health was established in 2012 by Governor Richard and Mary Jo Codey. The organization was founded on the beliefs that access to comprehensive care and quality treatment for individuals with mental illness is a right, and that the stigma associated with mental illness is the single biggest barrier between the people suffering with mental health disorders and the treatment that can change their lives.
Our mission is to ensure that compassionate, quality mental healthcare is accessible to everyone and that the stigma associated with mental illness is overcome through public awareness and education. Despite major accomplishments and the progress achieved, New Jersey must still overcome significant challenges before it can reach the goal of making quality mental health care available to all those who need it.
Richard J. Codey is a former Governor and a 40 year veteran of the New Jersey legislature. Governor Codey has made the fight against mental illness a focus of his entire career. As Governor, Mr. Codey's first official act was to establish a Task Force to reform the New Jersey's mental health system.
