Distant Horizons was the dream of owner, Janet Moore, who, many years ago, decided she would see if she could combine her unquenchable wanderlust with a real job. From a family of academics, Janet knew the value of education and designed each trip to be led by a hand-picked scholar. From the first Asian departure in 1985, our programs have followed the same model.
Whilst our list of destinations has grown so too has our passion for what we do. Not a day goes by in the Distant Horizons office in Long Beach where we do not learn something new and revealing about our world. Our small team laughs a lot together and with our travelers. And we work hard.

We just returned from an amazing trip to Morocco which Distant Horizons arranged for our family (two parents and two teenage boys). When I told Janet beforehand what we wanted, she was able to incorporate everything into a one-week trip, with the most diverse and educational itinerary. We did everything! A few of the highlights were visiting a work animal rehabilitation center in Fez and exploring the medina there. We had an unforgettable cooking lesson and meal at the gorgeous Hotel Amani. We travelled through the Atlas mountains and saw the fossils, luxuriant oases, and a woman's button collective

Just returned from a customized trip to Cuba for 2 couples. We had a wonderful time. My husband and I have travelled all over the world and we expect a lot. Distant Horizons did a superb job. I had travelled twice with them before with a larger group and both time I was impressed. When I was put in charge by my husband to plan a trip to Cuba I reached to Janet Moore. Everything went as plan with no bad surprises. The guides were excellent. The choice of sites and events perfect. Lodging in a house a real treat. We just returned from a wonderful private trip to Japan arranged through Distant Horizons. We worked with Julie to develop an itinerary that suited our particular interests and style of travel. Distant Horizons did a great job of planning for us. Everything was very clear and meticulously described in our itinerary, even down to diagrams of the trains stations to aid us in changing trains during travel between cities.

My travel agent utilized Distant Horizons to organize my recent trip to Cuba. I am a Spanish Speaking psychologist, and I was interested in personalized learning experience in Cuba. Distant Horizons developed an extensive itinerary for my trip which included visiting several cities and meeting with Cuban psychologists and leaders.
I arrived in Cuba, and Roly Montero, my Cuban guide, met me at the airport. Roly was an exceptional guide for my week long Cuban experience which included visits to both Matanzas and Vinales.

I endorse and recommend this travel company without reservation. They have always exceeded my expectations. I am a world- wide sophisticated traveler. They deliver what they promise and then exceed it with their thorough and sophisticated personal attention. I'm off now to sail across India on the Ganges. Next spring , Iran. After that the Sudan.
