Services
The Red Barn Sewing & Yarn Center, located in Merrimac, MA, was established in 1978 by Helen Gosselin to provide quality fabrics, notions and patterns for the home sewer. In 1982, Linda Smith joined her sister, Helen, to help run the business. Over the years they grew the small sewing center into a full-service quilt shop.
The Red Barn Sewing & Yarn Center features an extensive selection of high-quality quilting and sewing notions. Over 200 book titles are offered as well as a large selection of quilt, tote bag, and table runner patterns. An assortment of battings ranging from cotton, wool, and polyester are available.
We stock over 4,500 bolts of quality fabrics from Andover, Benartex, Clothworks, Fabri Quilt, Free Spirit, Henry Glass, Hoffman, In The Beginning, Marcus Bros., Moda, M & S Textiles, Northcott, P & B Textiles, Paintbrush Studio, Quilting Treasures, RJR, Robert Kaufman, Shannon Fabrics, Timeless Treasures, Wilmington and more.
Classic yarns to create timeless projects are available. Also, some new and exciting yarns for that perfect winter accessory, both for warmth and for fashion are offered. Encore Worsted and Encore Worsted Colorspun - A best selling, high quality acrylic and wool blend yarn that is machine washable and dryable!
In this class the student works on a quilt of their choosing, at their skill level, getting assistance when needed. All that is required is the project comes from the shop. If you see it hanging in the shop, chances are you can make it. Think about your skill level and the difficulty of the project when selecting a quilt pattern for this class.

I like to stop at this shop when I’m in the area. The space is tight but they’ve got a lot to offer. Helen and Linda are great - super friendly and very helpful. A beautiful selection of batiks. I bought a kit and Linda took the time to review the project with me and gave me some help in how to start this large project. Also, a Janome dealer. I bought a sewing table for my Janome and couldn’t be happier.

Beautiful quilting shop and very nice women working there. But I went for yarn and the yarn collection is negligible. I wouldn't have made a special trip if it hadn't been called a "Sewing and Yarn Center." It is a sewing center that dabbles in yarn.

A great quilt shop! Excellent selection of batiks, Kaffe Fassett, seasonal fabrics, kids, plus yarn and machines. There are many samples for inspiration. They have been open 40 years so you know they are doing something right!

Very nice quilt shop; they also sell sewing machines. Fabric selection is well organized. Very pretty fabrics. This shop has space downstairs for classes. It is well lit and has large tables to sew on. I believe you can rent the space out for sewing groups. The owners are very knowledgeable and helpful. Plenty of parking.
