When a loved one has passed on, it is often up to the surviving family members to take care of the last details including their final resting place. Cremation urns serve as a vessel to contain the ashes and also as a memorial paying tribute to their life. You can view our urns video guide here. Our artisans are sensitive to the deep emotional component required in creating sacred objects.

The goal of each urn is to promote healing and recovery from loss while honoring a loved one in a beautiful vessel. Since 2013 ARTISURN's handmade cremation urns have been offering a final gift of healing - a chance to give your loved one or beloved pet the beauty from ashes.

Ceramic cremation urns were the first urns ever created to hold the ashes of the ones we love. Early man discovered that firing the clay at very high temperatures would turn it from something temporary to a sacred vessel that would last for thousands of years. The hundreds of years of experimenting with different firing techniques and coatings (glaze) resulted in many techniques used by today's skilled artisans.
Our copper cremation urns use traditional metalsmithing techniques. They are hand-riveted and made from solid sheet copper with complimenting brass accents. Each urn is aged to give it a sense of antiquity and is stamped with the artisan's maker's mark (special mark stamped into urns before they leave the artisan's shop) to ensure authenticity.
Just like people and pets, urns come in many different shapes and sizes. The general rule of thumb is for every pound of the person's total weight you will need one cubic inch of space. So if a person weighed 150 lbs. This rule works well for the ashes from the fire-based cremation where ashes are usually different shades of gray and gritty in texture.
