As a clinical psychologist I am available to help with various problems, from anxiety and depression, decisions to be made, or interpersonal conflicts, to chemical or other dependencies, severe mental illness, and medical problems. I promise you a thoughtful as well as knowledgeable approach to such problems based on my training and experience.
I provide psychotherapy that integrates psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and existential orientations. I teach mind-body quieting techniques for the management of stress, anxiety, and pain. When necessary, I am accustomed to collaborating with physicians of various specialties; on the other hand, many of the consultations I provide are kept strictly private.

Services
Are due at the time of the service unless other arrangements have been made. Cash and checks are accepted. There are charges: for missed appointments that have not been canceled at least 24 hours in advance, and for returned checks. I participate in traditional Medicare. Medicare does not cover my fees in full, however, so unless you have supplemental insurance ("MediGap") you will be billed for the remainder.
I provide psychological treatments for mental and emotional problems such as depression and anxiety, and for medical conditions such as chronic pain. I do not prescribe medications. In more complicated cases a psychiatrist is the physician most specialized in medications for mental and emotional problems.
Dr. Thomas J. Rostafinski is a clinical psychologist licensed in the State of Illinois since 1984. He graduated from Ohio University (Athens) with a doctorate of philosophy (Ph. Psychotherapy may not be about consciousness at all. Rather, it may be about change, about effective action, about movement in the sense of growth. It is a treatment for mental disorders, but it is also a means for expanding consciousness, fostering self-knowledge, unearthing and developing new skills and potentialities.
While saying so may run counter to the American can-do spirit, there are many conditions and situations for which there is no complete or satisfying solution. Chronic pain is one example, terminal illness is another. Medications, injections, and surgery do not always alleviate pain. A chronic condition is a permanent one.
