Mindful Purpose
I offer Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes in the Boston area and Life Coaching by videoconference. With 26+ years of training and practice in meditation and personal development, I offer a blend of evidence-based methods and practical approaches from the Buddhist tradition. I will not be offering online classes for the foreseeable future.

Sunada is a mindfulness instructor, teacher and coach. She inspires people to build purpose-centered lives through the power of mindfulness. Her compassionate coaching guides an inner discovery process that leads her students to confident steps in new directions. In this interview, Sunada introduced us to the basics of a mindfulness practice and how we (and our planet) can benefit from it.

My personal mission is to help people find their inner strengths, so they can bring out their best selves to a world in dire need. And this is work I do for myself as well. Like many people, I'm deeply concerned about the state of our world. The divisiveness and tribalism, the chaos and the sense that things are spinning out of control.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a comprehensive introduction to the art of mindfulness and meditation. Based on the work of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn that originated at the UMass Medical Center, MBSR gives you more than just relaxation techniques. Mindfulness helps to calm and steady our minds.
Sometimes we see there's more than chasing after status and outward achievements. And so we feel the urgency to tend to our INNER life. Or maybe we feel the need to grow into a bigger and better person to face significant life challenges. Or maybe because we see so much chaos, fear, and aggression in our world, we want to be strong enough to counter it with groundedness, care, and compassion.
I began meditating in the mid-1990s. At the time, I was involved in a stressful tech career and was also studying classical piano. My drivenness about both pursuits set the stage for a health disaster. The chronic physical pain and depression that resulted forced me to reconsider just about everything.
How the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program May be Able to Help Some of Your Patients. A compilation by UMass Medical School of recent research on the efficacy of MBSR in patients with various medical conditions. Mindfulness meditation training changes brain structure in 8 weeks.

Participating in an 8-week mindfulness meditation program appears to make measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. The benefits of meditation: MIT and Harvard neuroscientists explain why the practice helps tune out distractions and relieve pain. Mindfulness practice leads to increases in regional brain gray matter density.

My husband and I have just completed Sunada Takagi’s eight week course in MBSR, mindfulness-based stress reduction. It was the most beneficial course we’ve ever taken. There were many opportunities to learn about meditation, practice it onsite, and get directions and audio files for guided meditation homework during the week. While it was a significant investment in time and effort, it paid significant dividends even in just 8 short weeks. Research shows that even as little as 8 weeks can change the brain’s structure…WOW. Our experiences show that we can learn to make thoughtful choices

I have struggled with anxiety and depression for years, and I can honestly say that I am now able to better understand and respond to difficult situations in my life because of the lessons taught by Sunada. I also found great value in listening and learning from my fellow classmates. It was truly inspirational!

I have recommended this class to friends and my therapist. I learned so much but it's not the class that matters it's the teacher. Sunada made all the difference!

Sunada is an excellent teacher and exemplar of mindfulness. Her Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course is phenomenal. The classes include a nice blend of mindfulness techniques, thoughtful talks, facilitated group discussion, useful handouts, and homework to try out the practices. Sunada is deeply knowledgeable about the content and clearly practices what she teaches. She provides great examples and encourages questions and discussion. I loved the class so much that I attended her mindfulness introductory retreat, which was exceptional! It was a game-changer in my life, and has helped

A direct, practical, honest approach to mindfulness that will likely be helpful to those seeking a doorway into these practices. Sundae teaches with warmth, clarity, and a refreshing openness.

I took an MBSR course from Sunada. I learned so much from her and from her ability to effectively teach the course material. Sunada has a very patient and calming presence. I feel like my mindset toward the world, stress, and my bodily reactions to events is forever changed. Thank you, Sunada!
