On the Windfall is a true rural, mountain escape. We are an owner managed vacation destination located in the beautiful, Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. These charming mountain cottages are centrally located to many attractions, and festivals within the tri-state area including North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Breathtaking, Ashe County has long been known as the "Lost Province". This is where Appalachian traditions remain frozen in time. The natural beauty of this area includes abundant wildlife, wildflowers, awesome long range views, picturesque farms and magnificent starry nights. Big Horse Creek and Helton Creek offer some of the best fly fishing in the state.
Services
We are centrally located to many activities that include canoeing, tubing, bicycling, hiking, fishing, shopping, theater, and dining. Ashe County is home to many parks, including Mount Jefferson, the New River State Park, the NC game lands at Three Top Mountain, and Bluff Mountain Nature Preserve to name a few.
Continue on US-58/VA-91 (Jeb Stuart Hwy.) east of Damascus for about a mile where US-58 will diverge to the left and continue to White Top, VA. (Approx. 17.5 miles Hang onto to your hat. It is a scenic and twisting road. 1/10 mile past the White Top, VA Post Office and Volunteer Fire Department, turn right on Mud Creek Road (Hwy 600).

The most spectacular, serene stay. Our second time staying here and we have already booked a Fall stay. Both houses to rent are gorgeous. We stay in Grampy Aut. Fairytale home. Well appointed. Comfortable bedding, luxury linens. The view is amazing and the quiet is just so wonderful. Watch the sunrise from the bed upstairs. Hike on the property to the vista and view the mountains, hike just below and take in awe inspiring rock formations, walk down to the Pascova, stay awhile and enjoy the flowers, bees, birds, butterflies. Pack a meal wherever you go and sit and enjoy. Away from it all but close

We wed On the Windfall at the beginning of October 2016 and stayed a few extra nights for our honeymoon. George and Carole were very professional yet friendly to work with and served as amazing hosts the weekend of the wedding. They were very negotiable while booking the venue and were reasonably priced. We loved having a venue that not only offered a beautiful location and provisions but also provide accommodations for the wedding party and family to stay onsite. The farm offered a lot of entertainment onsite and gave us the opportunity to host a family reunion in conjunction with our wedding
