Services
Rhintek has been incorporated since 1977 as a high tech/engineering company. Since that time there have been many diverse projects. Some of these projects were directed to a specific client, while others became the basis of a continuing product line for Rhintek. This project started when someone needed a new mattress and started trying to figure out the engineering behind an ideal mattress.
Mattresses consist of two main parts, the core and the covering (called ticking); plus, sometimes, a pillow-top. Often the core is made of several layers of various materials; I consider this to be a "patch" for using a deficient core material. Ticking: The mattress covering is so important that it has its own word, ticking, to describe the heavy woven fabric used to cover early mattresses.
The key is to minimize places that allergens like dust, pollen, pet dander, and bugs can accumulate. All cloth items should be machine washable, preferably in hot water, to kill unwanted organisms. The frame can be left unfinished or treated with an edible oil such as walnut or almond oil. Edible oils are not recommended for those with sensitivity or allergies to nuts.

Edges have long been a part of spring mattresses because they are needed to hold the mattress together. The edging has been justified by explaining that it keeps you from sliding off when sitting on the side of the bed. My take on this is that chairs and couches don't have edges, why should beds. The edging makes the usable part of the bed smaller.
