Vikramasila Foundation

There are four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism: Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, and Gelug. Each of these four traditions has its own unbroken lineage of teachers and emphasis of practice and scholarship. The Sakya tradition was established in the eleventh century by its founder, Khn Knchok Gyalpo, and has been sustained by distinguished practitioners, saints, and scholars in an unbroken lineage to the present day.

Sakya Trizin Ngawang Kunga served as the 41st Sakya Trizin, the head of the Sakya Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, to which he was appointed in 1952. He is considered second only to the Dalai Lama in the spiritual hierarchy of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1982 Lama Pema was sent by His Holiness Sakya Trizin to teach in New York City, becoming the first of the younger generation of Tibetan teachers from the Sakya School to settle in the United States.

We invite you to join us for Dharma talks, meditation practice, cultural activities and major empowerments offered throughout the year by the Venerable Khenpo Pema Wangdak and special visiting masters. All are welcome for a special five-day program led by Khenpo Pema Wangdak - attend full-time or part-time.

Practice anywhere, at home or on the road, on weekdays, weekends, or any sacred days of the month or year, starting at 7:00 am and continuing until 7:00 am the next morning. The Sojong may be observed by anyone who is mentally and physically fit. You will stay healthier, lose extra weight, live longer, save resources by not eating dinner, and have more to share with those who have little.

Pema Ts'al School System promotes the full potential of young Tibetans in an environment dedicated to their academic and personal development.
