Kadampa Meditation Center New York City
Buddha's most profound insight into the nature of the mind remains as revolutionary in our modern world as it was 2500 years ago: the mind is the source of all happiness and suffering. All of it. At KMC NYC, this is what we learn - in a very practical way. So that through meditation, we can cultivate authentic happiness, and actualize our greatest potential, and help others do the same.

We do not discriminate based on race, gender, background, age, religion, politics, sexual orientation, or otherwise - everyone is always welcome at KMC NYC and other Kadampa Centers around the world. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the 20+ drop-in classes offered each week, in-person ans online.
Services
Kadampa Meditation Center New York City exists to provide everybody in the New York area with the opportunity to learn about and practice Buddha's teachings. To fulfill this aim we have created a peaceful city sanctuary located in the heart of Chelsea. Based on the books of the modern day Buddhist teacher, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we present Buddha's teachings in an accessible manner that can easily be integrated into busy modern life.
Each week, we offer more than 20 classes, of which most are drop-in and perfect for all levels of practitioner. A simple 30-minute meditation is a great class to begin with if you're looking to ease in to meditation. These are offered every weekday first thing in the morning, and at lunchtime, and after-work on Monday through Thursday evenings.
The General Program (GP) classes are drop-in classes, suitable for beginners as well as those with an established meditation practice. Each class includes a teaching and meditation based on Buddha's Sutra and/or Tantra teachings. Through these classes we can learn how to use Buddha's advice in our own lives to solve all our daily problems and find the peace and happiness we seek.
Happiness and suffering are merely states of mind. So if we are to experience the happiness we all long for we must learn to how to connect with that state of mind and not the ones that causes us so much pain. Part of this process entails identifying our negative patterns of thought so that we can begin to learn to let them go.
We could all use a reality check now and then. In this class, we examine the specific issues that we're dealing with in our daily lives and then begin working on how to fix them. Through teachings, meditations and discussions, each class helps us to sharpen the tools we need for becoming more mindful of what exactly is going on both around us and within us.

Decent place for meditation. Kadam Morten is great. But it’s expensive. I don’t think a Buddhist place should be charging 25 bucks for a dharma talk

I had been looking for a really good Buddhism center in NYC, and I was really impressed with what I saw on my first visit. I've only been here once so far, so take this with a little grain of salt, but the space was absolutely lovely. The evening class took place in front of this incredible shrine, that really added to the atmosphere. Even though the teacher that night was a substitute, I was really impressed with the Dharma talk and his teaching style. I came away feeling really good and at peace with myself.

I took a free trial class and learnt a wonderful meditation technique which I still use often. Somehow my schedule didn't synch with the the schedule but I strongly recommend it. It is an extremely peaceful way to calm one's mind. Great learned teachers.

It's a truly incredible place. This center has plenty of experienced teachers, so anyone can find a teacher who feels perfect for them. The schedule is very accommodating, with classes as early as 7:30am so you can meditate before work. Lunchtime, evenings and weekends are well covered. All of the classes are easily accessible to beginners. They offer practical instruction on how to meditate. Most importantly however, they teach practical advice and Buddhist philosophy that helps us tackle life outside of meditation – because there's little point in being peaceful for 20 minutes a day and a

This is a truly amazing place. It is so warm and welcoming. They have a bunch of wonderful classes you can attend at various times. It's also the quietest place I've ever been to in the city. I'm new to meditation but I felt really at home here. I sat in on a guided meditation which was wonderful. I highly recommend this meditation center. So happy I found them!
