Sandhill Crane Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery dedicated to making wine with 100% Michigan-grown fruit! It all started when Norm Moffatt began growing grapes and making wine as a hobby after retiring in as an officer in Detroit, MI. His wife, sister, and two daughters got involved, and the five of them turned his hobby into a business!
Michigan by the bottle Tasting Rooms unite multiple Michigan wineries to bring a taste of the state's wine trails to Three locations in metro Detroit! With representation from all four of Michigan's major wine trails, the MBTB Tasting Rooms offer a close-to-home way to experience wine from different parts of the state.
Because we make such small batches, our wine list is constantly changing. If you find a wine you like, it's best to purchase it at the time of your visit - it might not be there the next time you come! If you're planning to come out and purchase a specific wine, be sure to call first to make sure we still have it!
We will be releasing our new vintages of Night & Revenge of the Living Red, as well as After Sundown. Dress like a zombie and get 20% off ALL bottles! We'll have mulled wine available, amazing food specials, and Dan Bickel will be joining us for live music from 3-6pm! Join us for our favorite party of the year!

Great to support a Jackson-area business that has great inventory and is clever in creating a wonderful setting. We enjoyed our wine sampler at a tabletop fireplace on a chilly afternoon. It was wonderful. (Especially enjoyed the blueberry wine).

Absolutely love this place! Great wine and sometimes has special things going on during the weekend like live music or someone local selling their art. Fantastic snacks too, very elegant feel to the whole thing in a small town way.

I have been to this winery on many occasions. I was very disappointed in the staff on my last visit. I was with group of women celebrating a birthday. We were seated in the back room with another group of women celebrating a birthday too. We were laughing and having fun. Just really enjoying our celebration. Then an employee came in and told our group to "shush" ! Seriously she said shush! We were too loud! I have never been "shushed" before in my life! Very offensive. We will never go back to your winery. It was just very immature on the wineries part. Our group and the other group will never

Two years later, things have gone "downhill at Sandhill." I see I am the second wine club member this week to complain of being treated rudely by the staff. They have lost a lot of good employees. Tonight some snarky pisher who called himself a manager would not switch out my wine club selection. "This has never been our policy" he said. He's only worked there for 3 mos. How would he know? I had always switched out any undesirable wines before. I asked to see seasoned manager or owner and he actually became combative. This man-child had no sense of customer service. Wine

This is one of my favorite places to go for a relaxing atmosphere. It's beautiful and the wine is great. Staff members are always helpful and kind. They even have some gluten free food options, which are good.

This is our second visit to Sandhill Crane vineyards. Both times for a race. I ran the half marathon the first time and then the 10K. He came for support. Who am I kidding? He came for the WINE. This is a beautiful vineyard and for this race they set up tents with tastings. You can purchase the wine. You can also go into the winery where you can eat lunch and enjoy some wine and merchandise. I have decided that I want to start trying more local wineries. He's not a fan of Michigan wine but he will do it for me! I'm so glad races are starting back up. I will always run for alcohol! If

In 2016, I had the opportunity to go to Michigan. During my visit I did a wine testing and feel in love with Night Of the Living Red Wine. The labeling may have changed over the years but still holds its rank as my #1 wine. I bought a case in 2016 and brought it back to Minnesota in hopes a case would last me a year. The next few years I had my friend bring back a case when she went to Michigan. I was able to ration myself but last year was rough, I was saving my last bottle until I got more. Shout out to great delivery! My friend who grew up in Michigan just came back to Minnesota and she brought

This review is for my experience at the winery for a wedding. To get the downside out of the way first.

Their capacity is much less than what they crammed in the dining room. They don't serve the food and therefore, if they run out before all tables come through the line, then the guest is SOL. They should have service, or smaller bowls, or larger portions. The cost should be by the person, not by the vat of soup, or tray of sandwich meats when it's prepared and provided onsite. Finally, the bar is in the same room with the guests, and when crammed in, there is no good way to queue

Best accidental stop on a drive from Chicago to Lake St Clair MI! Perfectly tucked away winery with a great selection of wines and charcuterie to pair with. Small venue with porch seating with an exceptional view- we tried a flight of self selected wines and ordered the pick your own sausage and cheese charcuterie and hummus. AMAZING! Friendly staff too. 5 stars!

Amazing good, great brunch, unlimited mimosas and a jazz band!

Went to listen to some jazz and way brunch. We had the unlimited mimosas. I had the southern eggs which was amazing... The bacon was delicious and the packed eggs and avocado priceless. During brunch today was an amazing jazz band. The singers voice was beautiful and offered a great atmosphere.

Very beautiful location. Owned by a retired dpd officer who recently passed away. It is amazing to see the dedication from a hobby that turned out to be a business as thriving is this with family dedication. Wonderful to see. The only negative I would say is the lack of a full kitchen and for what you get the pricing on food is a little high. Otherwise definitely worth a stop in at least once

This winery is beautiful the only reason I didn't give a 5 is that we were hoping to have our favorite turkey sandwich we loved last time. However we very much enjoyed the charcuterie it was as much fun picking our choices as it was eating it.
I would like to give huge kudos to the staff we had brought our dogs and they were a little excited to see everyone and all the girls came over to say hi, give them hugs and also bring water. Thank you girls also for helping us clean up my husbands spilled wine what a travisty he hadn't even tasted it. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio that was

Another stop on my friend's bachelorette wine tasting weekend, we finished our afternoon at Sandhill Crane Vineyards. It had a great layout with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We loved that you could build your own charcuterie board and that they offered a variety of local products for purchase in the shop (I bought a super cut, handmade ceramic mug from a local artist).

As for the wine, and I'm not usually a big rose girl, we enjoyed their Sassy Rose (I think that's what it was called).

I did think it was a little sh*tty that the girl who was pouring said we could "

This place is so lovely, with beautiful wraparound decks looking out into their vineyard. I've always had lovely service here, and the selection is great (more on that later). Unfortunately, they've recently removed all the actual food (sandwiches) from their menu, and only have dips and charcuterie (and the odd salad here and there). This is a huge bummer! You can no longer really stop here to actually have lunch, which places all the pressure on the wine portion - and their selection is unfortunately now pretty small. While the appetizers we had were good, we came for lunch, so this

Lovely vineyard & facility.
We came wine tasting only today with out of state visitors. I believe we'll be back.
Nicole was a delightful, knowledgeable, generous hostess!
Love the ability to pick your samples from such a diverse selection of wine.
Left with several bottles of tasty wine. Thank you!

Most people don't think off Jackson as being a thriving social hub of activity. As someone who was born and raised here, I was rather surprised to see all of the new joints that have cropped up in the area. Sandhill Crane is unquestionably the best of them. An extremely hip place, the interior has a full bar and wine shop to greet you as you enter. Take a left, and you'll pass the delicious made-to-order kitchen which serves sandwiches (there's a wonderfully unique and tasty apple, honey and cheese sandwich), made-from-scratch soups, and baked goods (try the chocolate chip cookie

Wow!! I can't believe there's a winery this good so nearby! It's just like being up north. The grapes are grown right on the property, and the winery itself is pretty big. There's a section for wine tasting and a section for the cafe. We sat in the wine section, but went and ordered dinner and brought it over to our table. Their apple and brie grilled cheese sandwich was AMAZING. Like, I would consider driving over there just to get one to-go. The cheese board was great too. The wine tasting was a good deal, and there were a couple wines I really liked. I'd love

On our way home from a wedding in Ohio, we stopped by Sandhill Crane Winery. It has been about 4 years since we last visited this awesome winery. I like this winery because they have lots of events from painting to live music, you can sit outside or inside, and they offer food. You don't find this in many wineries here in the southern part of Michigan.

Since it was an extremely warm Sunday afternoon, we both ordered their peach sangria. It hit the spot. Very refreshing and just sweet enough without being overpowering. Their peaches are grown on their property and they make this sangria

Decided to go for a drive and try somewhere new today. Not too far of a drive and yet it felt like we were somewhere completely different. Sandhill is a Winery and a Cafe. Which is great if someone doesn't want or like wine they can have coffee, tea, lattes and cappuccino's. They also have a nice menu with Appetizers, soups, salads and a variety of delicious sounding sandwiches. They have fresh baked cookies And a few other tasty desserts also.
Upon entering we were greeted promptly and informed that we could do our tasting inside our outside. At other places I've been to it&apos

All the local Michigan goodness in one store! Zingerman's in Ann Arbor tends to be a long wait for their sandwiches and snacks, but luckily, they are a staple in most local businesses including Sandhill Crane.

We came here on the drive home for a late lunch. The vineyard is just off the expressway about 2 miles. It will be hidden if dark, but during the summer hours a peaceful getaway with lots of wine tasting. The $5 tasting allows you to sample a quarter pour all of their whites, reds, semi-sweet, sweet and dessert wines. It's probably one of the better wineries in Michigan, but I

Very nice hidden gem in Jackson, MI. The food served is prepared with Michigan made items. The Maddie sandwhich was good and the soup of the day: wild rice bisque was great. We also enjoyed a cheese plate with delicious crackers & apple slices. One of the cheeses stood out among the others and we were told it was a gouda with dill. The combo was great. The wine tasting is very generous for only $5. Very nice place to go to get away from all the typical soup, salad and sandwich type places with the added benefit of wine.
