In 2002 Michael took his hobby to the next level by studying viticulture, enology, winemaking at Michigan State University and growing grapes. Two years later Michael finished classes and planted 5 acres of grape vines. He was the first person to start a commercial vineyard in Lenawee County and as the vineyard grew his grapes were sold to Local winery
