First Street Cafe
First Street Cafe is located in downtown historic Benicia, California. For the last 24 years, we've been a warm place to eat, drink and relax - our classic American cafe is where both regulars and visitors delight in our timeless comfort & charm. We served classic housemade cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal items.

Many guests came from miles away to enjoy our Dungeness Crab & Artichoke Sandwich among many other choices. We did this everyday in a cozy dining room with big picture windows, an old anitque wooden bar in a classic Victorian building.

Came in for brunch after appointment and though still crowded, as usual, got us seated quickly. The food is also as always, excellent, fresh moat made right there and the crab artichoke sandwich is still the best stuff around. The other member of our group ordered breakfast with fresh made pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs and bacon. Excellent food and the fresh scones were fantastic. Only thing is parking is often a challenge so be prepared to walk aways and I've never been there when they weren't hopping so be patient. The food and service is worth it.

I was there Sunday 3/8/2020 for lunch with my wife and friends and I ordered again my favorite crab with artichoke sandwich but was very disappointed this time. There was hardly any crab meat and has more mayonnaise and cheese. I have been bragging it to my friends about this famous sandwich when I ordered and tasted it 3 weeks prior for the first time. It might be a different chef that made it this time. However, my consolation was the entertainment with the lovely voice of the jazz singer and the music. I still want to comeback and order again the crab sandwich hoping it will taste like the original

Placed an online order yesterday and it was super easy and quick. I’m grateful for these local businesses who continue to provide excellent food and service during this strange time. Emily helped me out during picking up my food and she was incredibly kind and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I ordered. First Street Cafe is a Benicia staple and it’s so important we continue to support our local businesses during this time of need. I highly recommend checking out First St Cafe if you’re looking for delicious food and great customer service!!

I love this little place. The food is consistently really good, but I almost always order the Dungeness crab and artichoke sandwich. It's scrumptious! 🦀
There are no fries because the cafe is in an old, historic building that can't accommodate a fryer apparently.
The service is always pretty good.

Great "hole in the wall" breakfast and lunch place. Always busy, outdoor seating on sidewalk. They offer pastries as well. Service is always friendly and fast. I'm posting the menu.

Best scones out there, ( cranberry/oat/walnut) which they bring out first when you order breakfast. Good specials and breakfast. Haven't tried the lunch but the open faced sandwiches look delish. Good coffee and service.
It all works!

Pleasantly surprised! Came in for a typical breakfast 🍳 in an old town cafe (which I love old down towns - btw) and there was nothing typical about our breakfast!!! We had the corned beef and hash - it was definitely homemade, flavorful and tasty!! And a Bagel with the works - smoke salmon - fresh and delish!!
Can’t wait for my next visit. Im not from the area but I just found a reason to visit more often! A friend just moved to the area and I think I just found my favorite eating spot! 😋

Nice ambience, great food, excellent service. Fish dishes are excellent. Berry crisp ala mode is to die for; big enough for 2 to share. A bit pricey, but a nice treat once in a while or for a special occasion. We like the front tables in the window.

We came in at the tail-end of Sunday brunch rush. They were out of several things, which isn’t surprising since we came in late. Our server was very friendly and apologetic and worked with us to find replacement orders. The food was wonderful and filling!

I can't think of a better place for breakfast (other than Tiffany's, of course 😉) than upstairs at the 1st St. Cafe in Benicia. Delicious coffee with a view of the bay. Very friendly staff. Going to return as soon as I can so that I can try the baked goods.
