At Andrew Boyle chiropody and podiatry surgeries you'll get prompt professional attention whatever your footcare needs. At Andrew Boyle chiropody and podiatry we're here to help you maintain your feet in the best condition possible. Feet are one of the most active parts of our bodies. We expect them to carry us wherever we wish to go, and take part in any activity we choose.
Often our feet do not allow us to do that comfortably. This may be due to the natural anatomy of our feet, our choice of footwear, or that simply we expect too much from them by over using them or injuring them. Sometimes other health factors affect our ability to attend to our own footcare. Back trouble, arthritic hands or poor eyesight are examples of this.

I qualified in 1984 after studying for three years at the Northern College of Chiropody (Manchester/Salford). The next four years were spent in NHS employment with Southport and Formby Health Authority. I had special responsibility for providing the nail surgery service, and for the treatment of those in specialist psychiatric care at Greaves Hall Hospital.
Chilblains are more likely to occur when cold skin is heated up too quickly, for example directly in front of a heater or fire. During cold weather, blood vessels near the surface of the skin get narrower, causing the blood to flow deeper in the skin. This is your body's normal response to cold and is designed to preserve your core body temperature.
Diabetes can limit the blood supply to your feet and cause a loss of feeling. This can mean foot injuries do not heal well, and the lack of feeling means you may not notice if your foot is sore or injured. If you have diabetes, you're 15 times more likely to have a limb amputated due to gangrene. The risk of complications can be greatly reduced if you're able to bring your blood sugar levels under control.
Cutting your toe nails too short, or cutting the edges, will encourage the surrounding skin to fold over your nail and the nail to grow into the skin. Wearing tight-fitting shoes, socks or tights places pressure on the skin around your toe nail. If the skin is pressed onto the toe nail, it may be pierced.
Many people find it difficult to attend to their own routine foot care. A bad back or hip replacement, for example, may limit how well you can bend down to your own feet. Failing eyesight may make it hazardous to attempt self care. Arthritic hands may make it impossible to use the necessary implements to attend to your needs.
