Billings Funeral Home
Life begins as a blank canvas. Every breath is a brushstroke. Every experience adds color. Each moment gives definition to our work-in-progress until the time for painting is over and our masterpiece is complete. We are Billings Personalized Funeral Home and Altera Cremation Services of Elkhart, Indiana.

When you lose someone you love, we help you frame his or her legacy for family and friends to view, remember, and celebrate as you say goodbye together. Let's be candid. We can't promise it'll be easy-death never is no matter how prepared one may feel-but we will carry as much of your burden as possible.
Services
We are Billings Personalized Funeral Home, believing every celebration of life should be as special as the person it honors. From food to flowers, music to mementos, we listen carefully to ensure each family experiences a meaningful and lasting tribute. Location that reflects you or your loved one's interests (e.g., a park, lake, garden, event center, church, or any other admissible place).
If your loved one has died at a nursing home, hospice facility, or hospital, please tell the staff you've chosen Billings Funeral Home. They will notify us. If your loved one has died at home under hospice care, please tell the nurse you've chosen Billings Funeral Home. He or she will notify us. We don't want to overwhelm you-you have enough on your mind-but we'll need some information to begin caring for your family.
Spend an hour with our preneed advisor today and spare your family untold frustration later. Planning a funeral only after the need arises is overwhelming. A family will have to make nearly 250 decisions within twenty-four hours of a loved one's death. These decisions come, of course, at a time when they are least capable of making them.
Indiana's National Cemetery in Marion, or Fort Custer in Augusta, Michigan are your burial choices. Veterans need to know that every honorably discharged veteran and his or her spouse is entitled to a free grave, free outer burial container, free opening and closing, and free marker. We encourage the use of National cemeteries; It is an honor you earned to be buried there.
A complete funeral (at your church or graveside) includes your choice of one of the caskets pictured, embalming, visitation period and one death certificate. Social Security pays a lump sum death benefit of $255 to spouses or dependent children. Disabled veterans, veterans dying in a VA hospital or veterans receiving a support pension receive cash benefits from $300 to $2,000.

They did a great job making setting up arrangements as painless as possible. When we were trying to put things together, we were in shock. At every step of the way I felt like things were explained to us clearly and kindly, and I never felt surprised or pushed when it came to pricing or services. I got the distinct feeling that we were dealing with people who genuinely cared. They even helped write a beautiful obituary for mom.

A first class team, that deals with folks in tough life events. When you are in no shape to deal with details, these are some people you want on your side.
Grateful for their help.

My mother and sister died 9 days apart from COVID in October,2020. The staff was so kind and considerate. It was a very difficult time and they helped as much as they could. I also used Billings in 2018 when my father died and had an equally satisfying experience.

They lost our loved one his belonging!!! They were unable to give us an explanation On what happened to my uncle stuff after we repeatedly asked for certain things back after the cremation!! They don’t understand the value of those belongings. Very disappointed!!

Everyone at Billings Funeral Home was a great help to my family and I. My father left this earth very quickly and Billings staff made getting him to his final resting place as comfortable as possible. Jo Johnston was our Funeral Director and was very personable and professional. Jo’s assistant, David Bowman, was also a great comfort to our family. May God continue to bless the great folks at Billings Funeral Home.
