Services
The Edith B. Jackson Child Care Program was established in 1972 by a group of Yale parents and faculty members in response to the growing need for quality care for children. Dr. Deborah Ferholt (Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatric Nursing) and Dr. Sally Provence (Professor of Pediatrics) developed the EBJ model, with the strong support of the Yale Child Study Center.
EBJ's dedicated teachers and staff welcome the children every morning, develop the curriculum, and work together with each other and with the children to foster a nurturing and age-appropriate learning environment. They facilitate, inspire, comfort, and mediate throughout the nine hour day. Each classroom has two or three full time teachers and one or two part-time teachers.
Children learn best when they are in a safe, predictable, child-directed environment, like the one we strive to create at EBJ. Nonetheless, we adhere to a daily schedule, bringing order to the child's day.
Because our teaching roster exhibits very low turnover and the classrooms are organized around a small class that spend the entire year together, there is continuity and consistency in the care that fosters close peer-to-peer and student-to-teacher relationships.EBJ strongly believes that these relationships establish the foundation for each child to develop emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically.

Beyond engaging and nurturing young children in its classrooms, EBJ actively promotes awareness, discussion, and informed advocacy of issues that are important in young children's lives.
