Life is a process of continuous change. Sometimes the changes are within our control and sometimes the changes simply overwhelm us. Dr. Kori Skidmore is a licensed clinical psychologist, practicing for over 20 years with people across the age span. She has a warm, accepting style that combines professional expertise and life experience to help clients face challenges and find their capacity for positive change.
Services
Dr. Skidmore's interest in child psychology started as a child, when her parents adopted three children and provided foster care for young children as well as respite care for children with developmental disabilities. She majored in psychology at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and then pursued a clinical psychology doctoral degree at Loyola University of Chicago, graduating in 1996 with a specialization in child clinical psychology.
Working with teenagers is a particular interest of mine because I enjoy their unique perspectives and the challenges that they present in therapy. One of my first priorities is to form a trusting relationship with the teen so that he feels comfortable, respected and safe. Sometimes this relationship forms quickly and easily and sometimes a solid working relationship takes many sessions over a period of months to be established.
My clinical work with adults is varied in a way that balances the therapy I do with children and expands the range of skills I can competently use. Some adults see me to work on their parenting skills, which could involve talking through past or present experiences or adapting techniques to support their child's unique developmental needs.
I work hard to ensure that my fees are competitive within the community but also affordable, whether clients have insurance or are self-paying for sessions. The fee for a standard session ranges from $150 to $200, depending on the nature of the session (e.g., initial consultation, individual psychotherapy, family session).

Kori has the wonderful ability to make patients feel at ease. More importantly, she's a terrific listener. Growing up in the 21st century, with all the sensory overload and negativity, is incredibly stressful for children. Kori helped our kids realize that they're not alone and that emotions matter. Our family would highly recommend Dr. Skidmore to anyone seeking quality, professional therapy with a personal touch for young children, grade schoolers and teens.

Dr. Kori Skidmore was truly a beckon of light in one of the darkest periods of my life. I began working with Kori when I was 19 after the death of a boyfriend and stayed with her for nearly 9 years. Kori not only helped me process his passing but she helped me find peace with other difficult moments in my young adult life. I am a person who inherently gets lost in the chaos of my thoughts and can lose sight of who I am. Kori had an uncanny ability to rifle through the gibberish of my thoughts and convey it back to me in ways that always left me with these "Ah-ha" moments. She taught me how to be

Our sweet 10 year old boy started developing severe behavioral and emotional problems that rendered our parenting abilities inadequate. We were scared and frustrated. In came Kori. We were instantly impressed with her ability to deeply listen to our story and our concerns. That alone was worth all the time and money spent. But then, Kori helped us craft new easily practicable ways of relating to and parenting our son. His behavior and our general sense of well being began immediately improving. Then it became apparent that Kori was developing a deep relationship with our son which he cherished
