Through Mrs. Heard's efforts and those of many others, the Maricopa Health Center merged with Associated Charities in 1923 to become the Social Service Center of Phoenix.Until 1946, virtually all the welfare services and medical care in the city and the metropolitan area came from this agency.

The Counseling Program is designed to provide individual, conjoint, marital, family and group therapy in an outpatient setting as an alternative to a more restrictive inpatient treatment facility. The emphasis of the Program is on prompt, intensive counseling to resolve personal, interpersonal, marital or social adjustment problems which interfere with day-to-day functioning.

Many times, the best results happen when medication is combined with counseling. Keeping careful watch is critical because medications can create adverse effects, and no two patients are alike. Medication Management services include psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring, and follow-up services.

Because addiction affects the body and mind, FSA treats it scientifically. Substance abuse and substance dependence are aspects of Substance Use Disorder, which is measured on a continuum from mild to severe. Because this disorder is often rooted in trauma that has not been adequately addressed, our Substance Use Disorder Program provides holistic treatment that is tailored to meet individual needs.

I am pleased with Family Service Agency and the staff are all very friendly. The front receptionist is very professional. My counselor is very good and understanding, as she is helping me through my pre-divorce process. My counselor's technique of teaching us (SOP group) was awesome. He held us accountable for what we said and did.
