Unlike a vision screening or other general eye test, comprehensive eye exams evaluate the entire health of the eye. They also help the optometrist or ophthalmologist determine your unique prescription. Comprehensive eye exams should begin as an infant to ensure proper eye and vision development. Ongoing eye health examinations at regular intervals are also important as many eye diseases and vision changes can occur without warning signs.
Eyes are the organs of vision. Through a complex process, they detect and focus light to create images. Vision begins when light rays are reflected off of an object and enters the eye through the cornea and then pupil. It then passes through the crystalline lens which refracts light to be focused on the retina.

My optometrist retired after years of caring for many patients in the Mililani neighborhood. He left a legacy of being personable and knowing each of his patients. I recently visited Dr. Kawamura for my first annual exam with him and experienced similar traits to my previous doctor. During our conversation I found out that my previous doctor was instrumental in Dr Kawamura selecting a career in optometry. He is personable, caring and listens to his patients. He provided a solution to a complex dilemma with my contact lenses that another optometrist (successor to my old optometrist) told me "

Dr Keith is the best ! I’ve had on and off inflammation in my eyes over the year and whenever I have a bad flare up he always finds a way to get me seen as
soon as possible and has really gone above and beyond to make sure I was getting the treatment I needed ! He also tends to follow up and is a true caregiver for the community.
I highly recommend his office for all your eye care needs!

I went to see Dr. Kawamura two times to help me get a Correct/Right yearly eye exam. Because other doctors I have went to have Not given me a Correct eye exam. The second eye exam with doctor Kawamura I told him I have Now seeing double vision and road lines cross over While looking through both eye but if I squint and look through one eye at a time the double vision and road lines crossing over go away. Dr. Kawamura diagnosing my Condition as having my glasses been made Wrong with the Wrong PD's for each eye. Dr. Kawamura measured my eyes and gave me a Correct PD number for each eye and he

This has been my best experience at an optical ever! I always feel cared for, which is why I'll never go anywhere else as long as I live in HI. I was able to make an appointment easily and was seen in a timely manner when I arrived for my appointment. I've been coming here for years and loved every visit! Thank you Dr. Kawamura for my perfectly upgraded lenses and fit!

Dr. Keith is super nice and friendly. With my husband being in the military I hesitate looking for new eye doctors because it's hard for me to find a doctor and office I like. But after being in Hawaii for almost 2 years I really wanted some new glasses. I took a leap of faith and scheduled an appointment with Kawamura eye care and I'm sure glad that I did.

Dr. Keith T. Kawamura,
I first walked in.. I was friendly welcomed by who I thought was an MA, but he introduced himself and apologized that it would be him in the morning. Anyways, the appt was originally for my daughter. Then, ended up asking a question for myself. He told me he could check it out for me. I then became his patient. I figure so close to home and not only that he was friendly. He was able to talk to my medical insurance about my new prescription. I was seeing a doctor in Queens West, she’s really good too but, it’s too far. I have the loads of kids and just traveling and walking

I am so happy that I had found Dr. Keith. This was my first eye exam and I really was not sure what to expect but, he made my first experience at the eye dr. a pleasant one. He explained step by step everything that he was doing and answered any and all questions that I had. After the eye exam portion was finished, it was time for the fun stuff to begin - picking out my perfect pair of glasses!!!!... as we walked over to the room that all his frames were in, he mentions that he wishes Kim was here because, she would be able to help me pick the perfect ones. I tried on lots of different types and

We went to Dr. Kawamura while we lived in Wahiawa, and we really miss him. He took his time with us, did a great job, and didn't make us feel rushed. He caught possible glaucoma in my daughter, but didn't scare us about it, and showed us on his pictures why she might have it and why we should keep an eye on it. We are hoping we can find an eye doctor in our new city that is comparable to him.

I wasn't particularly happy with my previous eye doctor and chose to go to Kawamura because of his perfect Yelp ratings. I figured nobody is really that good and maybe the reviews are somehow rigged, but what the heck. I was surprised and pleased to discover that he really is excellent, noticeably better than any other I have experienced. Unlike others who rush you through, this guy REALLY takes his time and explains things very thoroughly. It's obvious that he loves his work and cares about the patient's well-being. And, even better, he takes VA referrals! Definitely 5 stars

Dr. Keith and Kim are friendly and kind. Dr. Keith is extremely thorough on exams and provides reasonable options towards for care in a manner in which I understood. Because I have astigmatism, it took a while for me to get used to a different type of contacts. I appreciated how Dr. Keith was set on helping me find contacts that provided comfort.
Although their office is located in Wahiawa and it's a long drive from Ewa, I do mind at all.
Thank you Dr. Keith and Kim

As a camera operator, my livelihood is directly dependent on my ability to judge focus. When I reached middle age, I started to lose that ability and went to see Dr. Kawamura. He's an authorized Oakley dealer and came highly recommended. Nice selection of Oakleys but based on my particular needs for my job, he was able to offer me a nice, super lightweight solution- made by Crocs! Very happy with my new glasses from Kawamura Eye Care.
