Self-Serve Garage (SSG) is a new concept in automotive care for auto owners in the Pacific Northwest, Washington Area. The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) market in America is increasingly popular, as indicated by the number of TV programs devoted to the topic. Self-Serve Garage fills the gap between business that offer auto parts and tools or full-service auto repair by providing a location for customer's to fix their own vehicle.
Self-Serve Garage is searching for self-motivated, hard-working mechanics who want the freedom of being their own boss, work their own hours, and hand pick their clients and repair jobs. Our repair facility has all the equipment you need to complete just about any auto repair or maintenance work. Pacific Northwest mechanics can rent a bay in our auto repair shop on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Self-Serve Garage reserves the right to refuse service or terminate bay rental immediately. This will mainly happen when someone is not following the rules and regulations or is incapable of safely completing the job for whatever reason. Self-Serve Garage reserves the right to refuse service for any reason we deem necessary.

Very helpful staff and facilities have everything you need. Fair pricing, especially the $10 oil change.
I did an engine oil and gear oil change on the lift, then a serpentine belt change in a regular bay. Took me a little longer than it should have because I was being super careful. I saved about $200 doing it myself. Will be back.

He needed to change his brand new exhaust out. When he switche out the old one for this new one, he just used jack stands and rolled around on the garage floor alone... but then we found this place.
He called to reserve a time, they were open for us, got the hourly lift package and went straight to it. What I loved is we were both able to comfortably bond while changing out the exhaust this time. He brought our own tools, he did forget some of course lol. The guys working here will mind your business when needed, but are so down to Earth and friendly! They got that authentic 'car person&apos

Bays are clean, staff is extremely hard working and helpful, tools for rent are clean and in good repair, cost is unbelievable. Frank who was attending was quick to help and personable. Lightning was good and temperature was reasonable in the bays despite a cold rainy day outside. Business is veteran owned and reminded me of the bays on post. I almost didn't want to let this gem of a secret out!

I almost don't want to tell anybody about this place, because I know I'll have to fight for a space. George the owner is a super nice guy, the place is clean, and the rates for a space are very reasonable. I spent 5 hours working on my car in a space with a lift, and it was still half the price of any mechanic I called. Being dry, watching the Seahawks and working on my car is not a terrible way to spend a Sunday. Give George all of your business. But don't steal my space.

Restroom Review:
Self-Serve Garage has one, single-use, all-gender restroom. It was pretty clean and if you look closely at the photos, there are some good signs to remind customers and employees to keep it nice and tidy. I appreciate that.
Other review:
The owner, George, and the other staff are very friendly. It's a great space with all the tools needed to do self repairs on your vehicle. Like with most things that may cause injury, be prepared to sign a form to agree to certain rules and procedures and read carefully over the document. I am definitely coming here again for the periodic

I went in to replace my exhaust was fortunate to get a stall (with lift) without any delays.
The front office has a very comfortable "homey" feel. It has descent size waiting area. A small set up of coffee and condiments. The option for snacks and other beverages are available as well.
The service area was clean and spacious. The stall i worked in had an air hose for hydraulic tools and an extension cord for electrical needs.

I have been to this facility multiple times, and spoken with the staff and owner in person as well. I am sincerely impressed! The owner clearly cares, looks to be a true asset to his community beyond just running his business, and it shows in everything he does.
They are worth driving too even at a distance, as their attention to detail, and quality of service makes it absolutely worth it. As a dedicated DIY guy, I was thrilled to find this business and have been there multiple times to do work on my own car.
I literally cannot recommend them more highly.

Super cheap and friendly self-service garage! i've been here twice now, and both times, i was met with friendly customer service and speedy access to a stall. they have an awesome cheap deal if you're wanting to do a simple oil change, and they are ready to help you at any moment with some tools to loan if you need it. i was able to change my oil and rotate my tires without feeling rushed. its also really clean and quiet inside, which is perfect for non-distracting work. this is definitely where I'm coming when i get ready to do more work on my car.

When george and his family was in kent they were the best in the field.and his customer service and good nature way was very pleasant to do business with sorry he couldn't operate both locations. But tacoma is worth the drive for the self service repairs and dinner at taco Guyana on 38th and pine st.or Greek to me at 6th and Sprague st either way you can't go wrong,holla

I reserved a pick-up truck on Wednesday June 1st through Uhaul.com to be picked up on Friday June 3rd. I've been waiting outside since 8:45 AM. It is now 9:25 AM and there is nobody here. You're own employee is outside right now trying to get a hold of you. This is the most rediculous encounter with a business I've ever had. I wish I could give you less than 1 star.

So the garage has moved to Tacoma / UP area, and the new digs are sweet! Note that the business hours were changed but not updated here on Yelp - they tend to close at 7 PM on weekdays, which means I can't go there after work on weekdays anymore, there simply isn't enough time.
As much as I like the new garage, I really hope they re-open the Kent location, and expand business hours again. I live in Seattle and it's a long drive to Tacoma, through some pretty nasty traffic.

Awesome shop and super convenient! I came down from the Federal Way area, super new to town, and was surprised to see a shop like this. Never heard of anything like it. It's frowned upon to use my apartments parking lot, and doing maintenance on the street makes me nervous so this is right up my alley. Price is beyond reasonable, and to agree with other reviews the shop is no frills while at the same time having all the stuff I needed. Anything else I asked about either the owner George or his employee Doug knew how to call around and find it. They have a computer there for quick reference

I recently installed a new trailer hitch on my car and needed to install the trailer wiring harness. While I was able to do the hitch install easily in my own garage, I needed to drop one of the mufflers and it's heat shield to properly route the wiring harness.
