Services
Identity House is an all-volunteer community that provides counseling services to support and encourage LGBTQ+ adults who are struggling with issues of sexuality, gender identity, alienation, relationships, and family. We've proudly served the New York metropolitan area since 1971. Identity House provides a unique service as a peer counseling center for the New York City metropolitan area's LGBTQ+ community.
Identity House referrals are only provided by peer counselors at our Walk-in Center, or occasionally our Support Groups. Our peer counselors start with a conversation about your needs to determine the best fit. Do you need to use your insurance, or could you see someone independently? How far can you travel for service?
If you're looking for a way to give back to your community and meet others who enjoy helping people as much as you, becoming an Identity House member is a great way to do just that. Through supervision groups and co-counseling, you'll engage in thoughtful discussion about the struggles we face in common, and you'll probably make a few friends along the way.
Identity House provides a place for the LGBTQ+ community to seek the assistance they need, when they need it most. We welcome all to access our support services regardless of ability to pay. Your donations make it possible for us to continue to grow our services, and because we're a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, your contribution is tax deductible.

Was very poorly treated by "peer counselors" and supervising therapists. Do not recommend.

LGBTQ people have a right to exist. I'm glad to have a safe place to ask questions in a judgment free environment. Bigotry has no place here.
