Services
Practical Cycle is different than most bike shops- it's more of a transportation company. We believe that bikes are a viable transportation option that is more fun, healthy, affordable, and green than automobiles. We don't mean to offend anyone by this, and of course spandex-clad, hardcore bike racers are still welcome in our store.
Electric bikes make it easy to live healthy and explore your city without having to worry about parking your car or wearing fancy bike gear! Cristina has been looking for a bike to help her reduce the use of her car. She was excited to learn about electric bikes because it made her goal more realistic.
300% Demand Increase + Supply Chain Disruptions = a dramatic increase in demand for everything bike related. Delays are stretching into weeks and months for simple components like tubes and handlebar stems. Many outlets have no inventory left at all and ours has been reduced dramatically. Are you looking for an all around bike that can handle just about anything?
Whether you're headed up to the mountains for your annual family camping trip, down to the beach, or out to the big city, take your bikes on the go with one of our easy-to-install vehicle bike racks. We know you love your bike, and want to take advantage of any and all opportunities to take it out on the road.
The short answer to this question is far enough!. We find people spend a lot of time asking about range before they buy a bike, and we never hear about it again once they get it. We just don't get many stories of people running out of battery. For most folks, after an hour or two of riding, it's time to move on and do something else.

I want to send a huge Thank you to Michael at Practical Cycle for making our Pedego electric bike adventure so enjoyable! He was so patient with us. Showed us how to use the Bikes, and the routes to take around the river; he set up our baskets for our picnic items and just made the process super comfortable & fun! Thank you again Michael for helping us have a great day celebrating my friends Birthday! You are awesome!!! See you again soon!!

Privately scheduled appointment with plenty of time to test drive the bikes, talk about the options, and make our purchase - safe service during COVID times is important. Excited to be a Pedego owner, can't wait to get my bike and go for a ride! Tim, the owner, was very knowledgeable and I never felt pressured. Great guy and great service, thanks Tim!

We loved everything about our rental experience. Eduardo was friendly and informative. The bikes were incredible. So much fun riding around lake Natoma. This was our second time renting EBikes, but this was by far superior to our last experience. These bikes are fun, fast and in excellent condition. We can't wait to go again- we may even buy some!!

You never tried to help me & I was told it was a sale not a lease. Then when I called you because I thought maybe you made a mistake inputting the information since it seemed you were having trouble when I BOUGHT it. So when I call you were insanely rude & told me it wasn't your problem. Basically you told me to piss off. I hope you are out of business you lying cheat. If not, enjoy your review.

I bought my City Commuter at Practical Cycle in Folsom and had a very good shopping experience there. I drove two hours just to buy my ebike after researching for months and settling on Pedego. Tim the store manager was very patient and answered all my dumb questions. Don't know why the one stars?! He was even willing to stay late so that I can pick up my bike that came on order. Luckily I made it on time. I love my ebike and know that if I need any tune ups or problems with it I'll go back to Practical Cycle. Thanks Tim!

I hadn't really been on a bicycle since I was a kid. My commute to work was only 8 miles, so I thought I would toy with the idea of buying an electric bicycle. I didn't want my commute to be a huge ordeal involving special clothes and showers, so I figured an electric bike would be easier to add to my routine. I test rode 2 other models from other bike shops that also sold conventional bikes. I liked the other bikes, but I wasn't loving on them. Finally, I test rode a Pedego City Commuter from Practical Cycle in Folsom. I was very impressed. The other bikes didn't have

So upset with this place. My family and I came in to rent bikes. The bike I got had squeaky, loud breaks. I explained to the guy that I was concerned because the breaks were so loud and stiff. He told me that the bike was fine and not to be concerned. I road around the parking lot and the sound of the breaks got worse. I started riding , put on the breaks and had a horrible fall. I broke ribs and couldn't get up. The guy from the shop was more worried about the bike than me. Finally I got up and he brought the bike over claiming I broke the small control box and that it would cost me $30.

I am so surprised at these 1 star reviews that I had to post about my experience with Tim and his shop in general.
My husband and I purchased our electric bikes on October 2017. We had a wonderful experience purchasing these bikes and love them.
I also want to mention that we have returned many times to the store because my husband, who has dementia, always has many questions for Tim.
Tim has always been helpful, courteous, and kind to both of us. He has gone out of his way to be informative and patient with us.
We love our bikes and also recommend Tim and his store for anyone wanting to

Got kicked out for mentioning Amazon.
Everything was great, until I mentioned that I was going to look up the price of the tires I was looking at on Amazon. Tim, the owner, interrupted the interaction with his employee and I to start mentioning everything he felt was wrong with buying from Amazon, and then started to accuse me of coming in with the "goal of buying on Amazon."
The tire I was looking at wasn't EVEN ON Amazon. It was $30 online, $40 in store and I was deciding to purchase it in store. What happened after?
See for yourself, I recorded the interaction:

Dealing with staff at Practical Cycle has been great, until meeting with Tim, the owner. Sift through the reviews, including his old location, and you'll see a few encounters of what Tim's really like.
Awhile back, I bought a bike bag from Practical and Tim would have nothing to do with matching up with an online shop I frequent. As a matter of fact, he did some price gouging of the bag I purchased - higher than the suggested retail price.
Also, because we needed repairs on our bikes - it's one of the brands he carries, Tim also charged us extra for the parts to get our bikes running

We rented 4 ebikes from Practical Cycle for most of the day. The shop is well located next to the trail and rode down to the Sac State Aquatic Center to watch the Youth Nationals Regatta. The bikes were a lot of fun and the motor definitely helped on some of the hills. The trail around Lake Natoma is a nice one. Midway through the ride the motor on one of the bikes died. When we got it back to the shop, the owner was quite accommodating and gave us a fair deal considering. I liked the shop and rental experience.

I was here in Sacramento for a planning conference with a few other Cal Poly students. I came across Practical Cycling and thought riding bikes would be a great way for us to explore the city. The bike ride along the riverfront was one of my favorite memories in Sacramento. We rented electrical bikes ($15/hr) which made it even more fun and relaxing! We were on our way back to the shop in Old Town, and all was well until my rear tire started to feel strange. Apparently something caused my back tire to slowly leak air, and after some time the tire was nearly flat. We were three miles away from the

After doing a LOT of research on electric bikes, I decided to purchase one from Practical Cycle in Folsom. I have to say, my experience at this shop was FANTASTIC! Tim was available to me right away, and brought the bike that I was interested out immediately. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of the questions that I had. One bonus is that this bike shop is located at the entryway to the Folsom bike path, so I could take the bike out for a test ride safely, experience both straightaways and hills, and go for as long as I needed. SO FUN! Then, Tim went out of his way to make specific modifications

Wow, what a great shopping experience and I rode my beautiful new e bike for two hours today and still didn't want to get off it. It is so easy to use, so fun and it'll be perfect for commuting to work and for sightseeing on weekends. Tim and his wife were so helpful and friendly there was no high-pressure sales they were really attentive but not overbearing I couldn't have asked for a better experience I can't recommend them highly enough.

This place is more of a lifestyle shop as opposed to a hobby shop. They are passionate about biking as a primary mode of transportation. Their selection of electric and cargo bikes expands what you can do and where you can go on a bike. Grant helped me and he's awesome, very knowledgeable and most importantly, more interested in making sure I got the best solution for me (even if he wasn't going to sell it to me). This attitude and their expertise makes them my go-to bike shop.
Can't comment on rentals here, I've know shopped for bikes and accessories.

Practical cycles is a great solution for anyone trying to ditch their cars. I bought the Juiced Cross Current about 2 months ago. I knew exactly what I wanted when I got in and they didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need. Since than I had a flat tire and also added accessories,. to the bike. These guys are really friendly and professional. They are always willing to fix little things in my bike for no fee. Really great business.

Drove from Concord to Sacramento to only test ride and maybe order a Brompton folding bike. We got there about 45 minutes after they opened and was greeted with a smile from Kao. I must say that if I was looking for someone to hire she would be at the top of my list. She took the time to listen and understand what I was looking for in a folding bike. She let me sell myself on an in stock bike after my test ride. Great selection and professional sales staff at this shop. Very much worth my time to drive up, next time I might take Amtrak with my Brompton in tow. In fact we could be going back soon

Tremendous service! I was in Sacramento for a business trip and had a day of free time. Decided to rent a hybrid from Practical Cycle and ride the length of the American River Trail. I wound up having issues that made me a rather high maintenance customer. Kao was incredible. She went way and beyond what I could have expected. She knows the trails like the back of her hand. In addition to helping me on the trail, she stayed around long after the shop closed as I staggered back, with my phone battery dead, from the 70 mile bike ride in the blazing sun. She hadn't heard from me, but said they leave

Practical Cycle was an excellent place to purchase my City Commuter. I'm not on board with spandex and funny shoes. I decided to eliminate my car and do a 30 mile round trip commute by bike. I'm mainly doing this to lose some weight but the ride is a lot of fun. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks

My husband bought an electric motor conversion kit for his bike. They installed it and had it ready to go in a day. It has been the best thing for him as we have many hills near our home and it makes it possible for him to get out and get some exercise. Without the motor he would not be able to ride his bike as the hills are too much for him (he has parkinson's disease). The staff is so friendly and informative, they it a pleasure to shop there. I would definitely purchase another bike from them.

My favorite local bike store. This is one of the few stores in Sacramento that carries useful bikes. In fact they specialize in these bikes and have a wide selection of commuters, trikes, cargo bikes, ect.. in stock. You won't find any road bikes here. They also carry a wide array of accessories for commuters and cargo haulers alike. All the folks in this store are very knowledgeable about the bikes they carry - most (if not all) are commuter cyclists themselves. Everyone here will take the time to help you find the right bike - test rides, numerous questions, and browsing are welcomed and encouraged
