Allens Bakery Cardiff is Roath's secret bakery, established for over 25 years located in a building of character more than 120 years old! We offer a quality product to the usual high street supermarket fare including an array of breads, cakes and pastries.
Services
John Allen is the proprietor and master baker of Allen's Bakery of Cardiff (seen here on the right). He has over 30 years experience in the bakery trade. John leads a small team of dedicated professional staff. John has been a guest on BBC RADIO Wales talking about a variety of baking trade topics such as the 'Origins of the Hot Cross Bun'.
We take the views of our customers and 'foodie' bloggers very seriously. The positive reviews have spurred us into action to create our very own website and twitter account. As soon as I got home, I unwrapped my bounty. The pain au chocolat was perfect; crisp on the outside, soft on the inside with melted chocolate oozing out of it.

Best kept secret of roath. Homemade veggie sausage rolls and fresh baked loaves are an absolute win.

Friendly local bakery in Cardiff. Had their vegan roll which was amazing and flavourful. Their welsh cakes are also a must have. Their croissants and pain au chocolat are divine, pillowy, and flakey!

Great bread and pastries, good prices, lovely small business feel - although you've likely ate their breads in various restaurants or cafes in the city. Don't expect sourdoughs; they keep it more traditional, but their delicious granary or seeded wholemeal loaves are top notch, for example.
I'm a fan of their pastries - the pain au chocolats stand out, or almond croissants. Get them early (ish) in the morning when they're at their freshest, hot from the oven. Get a loaf of bread while you're at it, make some toast, and you've got perfect start for a Saturday.

Fantastic range of breads and pastries. Great tasting, local and organic food. Brilliant service. Their mince pies at Christmas time are a must!
Really lovely to see an historic, traditional bakery still in operation in central Cardiff. Opening hours 3am until 1pm Monday to Saturday. Great place to get general supplies as well as weekend breakfast treats.

The place is hidden. It is hard to find the first time you go. They have great white bread! There grainy bread is good as well. I think they are priced right as well.

What a hidden gem, last of the independent bakeries, get there early to have best option on cake and bread, all fresh of course.
The original coal or oil fired ovens are still fixed in the walls, though they now use newer ovens..
Definitely worth a visit, we grab a cake, pick up a coffee on Wellfield road and enjoy it over the park.

Fantastic little tucked away bakery! Bread is fresh and incredibly tasty, pastries are delicious and their cakes are spectacular. Not much at fault with this bakery, much better than your typical Gregg's or Tescos.
