Eye health is just as important as the rest of your health and eye health begins with yearly eye exams. Comprehensive eye exams can reveal a whole host of existing and potential problems. They are the first line of defense against serious eye health issues such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, eye infections and other conditions.
Introducing iLux, the latest technology to treat patients suffering from dry eye. Dry eye is a chronic eye disease caused by deficiencies in the tear film that affects over 30 million people in the United States. Of those 30 million, 86% suffer from Meibomian Gland Disease or MGD. Every time you blink, there is a protective layer of moisture called the tear film that coats the front surface of your eye.

Updated: After a long time away due to COVID-19, I finally got back in for an eye exam. Scheduling was super easy and the space is set up to feel extremely safe (surfaces are sanitized, as are frames after tried on, for example). I was immediately welcomed by Shayla, who was incredibly kind and very helpful. We had fun chatting eyeglass designs and I tried on a few out of their gorgeous selection. Dr. Chiao was wonderful as always. I highly recommend this place for exams and for eyewear.

My first experience with Belmont Shore Optometric was in late 2019. After being an avid LC (you know the place) customer for over a decade, I moved to Belmont Shore and felt like it was a good time to switch to a small business for my optical needs. I was used to going to LC (not going to put the competitor name in here) and waiting for weeks to get an appointment. When I called BSO, they actually asked ME when a good time was. I wasn't used to not being on someone else's schedule.

Dr. Chao is exceptionally careful about being comprehensive and accepting of patients’ needs and vision concerns. Even though I’m a complicated prescription for both glasses and contacts, she makes me feel like it’s her greatest day when I find i can see well! Our family has enjoyed the care she and this practice give for years. Sherri has fit us all in glasses and we appreciate the variety of options in the shop that enables this.

I’ve been going here for years. They are always on time which is great when I’m coming from work and have the best selections of glasses. I get compliments all the time on my glasses every year. One time my lens had a scratch almost a year later and they replaced it with no questions asked. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I bought two amazing pair of vintage frames and all I needed were lenses. I needed clear lenses for my regular glasses and tinted for my sunglasses. The woman looked at my frames and my prescription and said it would be simple. She quoted me for two pairs of lenses for $890.
Then I drove all the way down to the OC and went and had a second quote. For the same exact and I mean same exact criteria and he charged me only $325.
I was trying to support our local businesses, but I’m afraid I can’t afford it.

The people there are friendly enough and their frames seem to be sturdy. They're also very expensive for frames. The lenses, however, are a whole other issue. I got my first pair last year, 2015. Within a few months, the lenses got scratched badly and started to crack. I thought maybe I was being too rough or something, despite never sleeping with them on and putting them away every night in the case.
