Services
We specialize in connected care through in-person or telemedicine visits with a psychiatrist, therapist, or psychiatric nurse practitioner. At Community Psychiatry, we value practicing compassion, being trustworthy, and striving for excellence in patient care. We believe that our company culture reflects these values and that actions speak louder than words.
Your discussions with your provider and their clinical observations about you become the basis for choosing medication, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS therapy) and/or psychotherapy. If your mental health provider recommends medication, the initial stages of treatment may require several trials of different medications in order to choose a treatment that is effective and causes no side effects.
Our insurance specialists will work with you to verify your coverage and secure authorizations for care. If you have recently lost your insurance, Covered California can be a good resource. CP is contracted with these Covered California plans: Anthem Commercial, BlueShield of CA HMO (managed through Magellan), Western Health Advantage (managed through Magellan) and HealthNet.
Our providers are contracted with most commercial insurances and some managed Medi-Cal plans. It's important to make sure that your insurance information is up-to-date so that we can properly bill your insurance provider. Psychiatry is also a method of treating mental and mood disorders. Psychiatrists often practice psychotherapy and they have earned a medical degree.
Despite having been prescribed over 20 different antidepressants, Vanessa still struggled with depression. Then a therapist suggested transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Click to learn about her experience with TMS, and why she credits TMS with helping her experience real happiness for the first time.

Reposting this because their is no way to reply to your reply. Did I say that I wasn't seeking long-term care? Pretty sure I didn't because I am seeking long-term care. BUT, I also said I'd need help with my disability paperwork at some point, which is not uncommon, but also not imminent. Honestly, I'm just looking for psychiatric help, but you turned me down for being on disability. Shame on you!
I just waited 3 weeks to try to set up an appointment. Â During the interview, they stated that they would not support me with disability. Â It states this on their website

I've been a patient at Community Psychiatry for almost 2 years and this is not by choice. If like me, you have severe ADHD, then you know it is difficult to not only find a psychiatrist accepting new patients in your network, but one who will prescribe the medication you need to function. CP was where I was referred after my previous doctor retired, and thanks to the inanity of the US healthcare system, I've been stuck here ever since.
My experience at Community Psychiatry has been the most dehumanizing, distressing, and demoralizing ordeal I've ever endured. It has ruined my life

I have been going here for over 10yrs. Dr Puri takes excellent care of me. Yes with the new owners no ine answers the phone. However I do choose the option of leaving my callback number and have no problem receiving a call back the same day. Sometimes within the hour. Even on Saturdays. The front office lady Cora is very sweet and always on top of it.

To berate a reviewer for posting an accurate public comment is just beyond me. If he/she could have reached you "privately," he probably would have. That's not an option anymore. Not since Gelbart sold out to Community Psychiatry. I am, after several years of excellent family counseling, having to find new counselors for my family. I care for my mother, my uncle, and one of their friends, and when they need to reach their therapists, I phone, leave messages, and never hear back. I'm working full time and raising my own kids, and having to try to keep everyone safe and ensure they get the care they

This place sent me a non-itemized bill immediately after my appointment and tried to bill me without billing my insurance AT ALL - I contacted my insurance company and neither of my last two visits were billed to my insurance. I sent a reply email to the email containing the link to pay the bill to which nobody has responded...it has been about 2 weeks. I also called about 2 weeks ago and the person I spoke with said they sent an email to the billing department but I have received no corrected bill or other communication. While I appreciate the phone number provided below to call with complaints

The doctors who work here are fine, so there's no problem there. But the contact system, the phones, the front desk (which I doubt is even manned), and April, the contact person for the M.D.s, are all just terrible. Things seem to change every other day and if you don't already need mental/emotional help, you will once you try to get through the system. I think we all realize that CoronaVirus created a Bizarro World, Catch-22 situation, but wouldn't you think that with so many people out of work, the ones who actually are still employed, particularly in medical positions, would try to do their

Please please do not use these people. Every step of the way they failed me. The office took weeks to set up my first appointment and then canceled it right before I was about to have it. I had to call back 3 times before they rescheduled it.
My intake session was intense. I went through EVERYTHING and was honest with the doctor. He wasn't very empathetic but I wanted to make sure he could create a proper plane for me.
The doctor no-showed to my next appointment and the front office told me he was on vacation, when I called in asking where he was. So I rescheduled again.

I hesitated to write this--as a physical therapist and business owner, I'd like to support them-- but you good folks need to know.
I shopped around at several clinics to find the best price for my needs. I called Community Psychiatry to give my insurance provider info and to get an estimate on the cost per session. The answer given to me was "Probably around $40-$60 co-pay." I thought great! I got a verbal confirmation of this quote multiple times, and this guided my decision to go here. It was based on price analysis and their quoted price.

First off, I would not wish the below on any individual, much less people who are clearly trying to gain some mental relief. Know that you have other choice of providers, and Community Psychiatry (CP for short) is most DEFINITELY NOT worth your time.
Please learn from my past mistake, and stay far far away from them. I have since engaged with other mental health providers without any billing issues, so it is clear that the issue falls on CP.
I underwent 2 treatments with them in Oct 2019, the treatments were fine but their billing department is atrocious. Story below:

Obviously functioning in a Covid world has presented some challenges for everyone but their customer service/patient care is particularly bad. It’s practically impossible to get a live person on the phone, call back wait times can be days long, there seems to be little to no communication between the clinicians and office staff and good luck getting a prescription refill. I’m guessing that things run more smoothly when they are working in person but their pivot to a WFH practice leaves a lot to be desired.

I am a patient getting diagnosed and I am still a minor so I have my mom with me and hearing the way the doctor interacts with my mom is very unprofessional and for the amount she is paying it so no where near the satisfaction we need . The doctor that works there is verbally rude and hearing the way she talked to my mom made me very upset . The doctor would hardly admit to there offices mistakes and would find a way to blame it on other reasons . We had scheduled an appointment and where asked to be at least 15 minutes early and 30 minutes after there was still no show and we got no call or notification

I would not recommend doing business with this clinic. One who deals with mental health concerns seeks assistance from a mental health clinic to help them get to a more stable and positive place with a more hopeful perspective on life. This clinic will mislead you, mistreat you, and take your unfortunate experiences and words for granted. They have some very unsatisfactory office staff that will dominate and jeopardize the outcome of any mental health treatment plan that may be on on the horizon. Mark my words, it's in your best interest to not do business with this alleged mental health clinic

The doctors are good - or at least the one I see. The staff, however, is embarrassingly bad. They do not respond to calls or emails, schedule you at the wrong locations, and will charge you multiple times for the same thing without notice. I am currently being charged for the same appointment 3 separate times without on 2 separate cards - which was supposed to be billed to my insurance in the first place.

UPDATE: after I posted this review (I have it 2 stars) a rep did call me and explain the cause of their error and she apologized and tried to book me an appointment. So I have added a star because I do appreciate that someone cares enough to call me and explain and apologize. I understand mix ups can happen. Everything here on is my original review.
Booked an appointment by phone 2 weeks in advance for an initial video visit. 2 days prior I received a message saying I must call them back that day. I did and the voicemail is full so one cannot leave a message and no one ever answers. I understand

I am so grateful to Community Psychiatry for being there when I really needed them. The office is clean, the staff is so friendly and welcoming and I adore my Dr. Erika Pizarro. The entire staff at Community Psychiatry is accommodating and understanding and I have moved across the country since Dr. Pizarro was my Dr, but I miss her and this office and San Francisco all the time.

After looking through the reviews here, I need to share a similar experience.
This review is for the staff and not my Doctor, Dr. Johnson. The staff here is horrible, particularly Deanna. Everytime I've called she has been cold and rude, when you ask her question she goes dead silent for 10-20 seconds in which I have to say "hello?" because I think she hung up, then she would sharply say in an annoyed manner "hold on a minute", this would happen over and over throughout the course of the conversation, because I'm seriously not sure if we got disconnected or not. I really enjoy Dr. Pizarro and don't want to discredit her or the other doctor's here in anyway. However, as many other reviews have said, I would avoid this practice because of how incredibly rude and incompetent the office staff is. I have been hung up on, talked down to, repeatedly denied simple requests, etc. etc multiple times to the point where I felt I needed to complain. I am mentally stable however I can not imagine if someone in desperate need of their mental health services had to deal with these rude people and the unnecessary roadblocks they put up for you. You would think

I don't know what's up with the bad reviews, but I've been here three times and this is a good place for psychiatry. My MD is Erika, and she's been on the ball with prescriptions, refills, and appointments. This isn't the first psychiatrist I've seen, either; I've seen university ones and private ones on the east and west coast, and this seems to be the best practice. They do accept insurance (I have Aetna through my university), and the copay was only $20. It's never crowded here and the waiting room has a nice ambiance with free water cups. Staff is decent

I waited months for this appointment (their 580 California Street Ste. 1200 office) because it's so difficult to find mental healthcare in San Francisco. Upon the completion of my visit (appointment was at 11:00 and I wasn't seen until 11:20, cool), the psychiatrist told me that my evaluation was 60% complete and that we would finish in three weeks when I have my followup appointment.
This initial appointment with Dr. Singh was $350. I've never heard of someone leaving an initial psychiatry appointment (where they're vocal about seeking/needing/receiving treatment) without

If this place could get a zero I would give it one. Community psychiatry has NO ON CALL DOCTOR. This is straight up negligent. I just called twice to speak to an on call doctor and there literally is none. I've been asking for a referral out to another place for 5 weeks and the doctor can't send it because "her outlook doesn't work." They are all completely incompetent over there and don't care about their patients. this place should be shut down.

I'm not so sure about this practice. The front office is dismissive and will take calls over patients who are standing in front of them.
("See that magical button? It puts people on **hold!")
I do think they're very understaffed and overworked. The phone never stops ringing. That said, I also got a healthy dollop of attitude at least three times, a punishment I suppose for asking more than one question.
They also forgot to relay the refill request to his doctor for my child's prescription; he said he never got the message while the front office said it was his fault

I scheduled my daughter here for her first appointment. She developed kidney stones and I called to reschedule more than 24 hours before her appointment starting on the Friday before her appointment. They said I would be charged a 50.00 fee. I called the billing office and they said they would need a doctor's note. I called to explain and complain and thought they would be reasonable but I just received a 50.00 cancellation bill. I had to go to the trouble of getting a doctor's note - still waiting for that fee to be waived. That is our first experience with this place - definitely
