It's been 35 years since Master Chef Norbert Schulz and his long-time business partner, Brigitte Guehr, first opened a restaurant in Santa Barbara and Nook, is their latest creation. Housed in a blue shipping container, inside of the Waterline building, Nook has an order window and a pickup window and buzzers to let you know when your food is ready.
There is inside and outside dining. The Nook serves up elevated bar food and is flanked by two different taprooms that both offer their fare. The food came out hot and was fantastic, we gobbled everything up and walked around the super quiet and funky (in a good way) street that it's located. Grab a brew and a German pretzel, you won't regret it.

The Waterline is an adaptive reuse project located in an expansive industrial warehouse property in Santa Barbara's burgeoning Funk Zone.
Originally built on the rubble of the historic 1925 earthquake, over the ensuing 90 years the property has been home to a bevy of industrial uses before being freshly re-envisioned by Miramar Group as a community-centric destination for food, beer and wine and works and wares created by local artisans and skilled craftspeople.

Hearty food that pairs well with beer!
I've been fortunate enough to dine here several times when I've patronized the watering holes at The Waterline - no pun intended! It's uniquely situated within the confines of this building, in what looks to be a converted storage container. Pretty cool.
Regardless of day or time, there is usually a line for The Nook. I see it as a testament to their quality. Each time I've ordered from here, the food is just that. They make a great ahi sandwich and their pretzel bun burger is delicious. The pricing isn't cheap, items start at around

I love coming to Lama for a beer and getting a turkey burger from the Nook! I've had a bunch of things on their menu but I think the fried chicken sandwich and the turkey burger are my favorite. If you're not hungry for a full meal, their truffle fries are also a great snack to go with your beer. I highly recommend coming here for dinner, a beer, and watching a game or just hanging with friends!

We actually had a bit of a hard time finding the place since the outside was the icon of a dog and nook had a different logo. It had a really cute sitting area outside where you could sit with your pets and a kind of trendy American upbeat bar/eating area inside. The food was really delicious and filling. The tempura cauliflower was a good appetizer and the grilled salmon salad very balanced! The salad has a soft citric flavor (not harsh to tummy or throat like most citric dressing) which really paired well with the almonds, strawberries and really made the combination of savory and sweet work

I got the pork belly quesadilla, and I would highly recommend it. It came with just the right portion, and the meat was perfectly flavored. Each piece is the perfect size to finish in two bites so that it won't fall apart as you devour it.
There are some seatings both inside and outside, and there is a parking lot at the end of the street that lets you park for free.

Located inside Lama Dog, the Nook provides patrons of Lama Dog a terrific option for food. Serving mainly burgers and fries, you can't go wrong with any to pair with your beer.
I got the lama burger with truffle fries ($1 upgrade) and I was pleasantly surprised with how juicy the burger was. The patty was so juicy and the bacon was terrific. I love how the brioche bun held its integrity too. I was highly recommend getting the chipotle aioli to put inside your burger. The fries were great but a little on the salty side. I guess that's why you have your beer to drown out the saltiness

The Lobster Mac N Cheese was a rip off. I had like 3 tiny pieces of lobster in my Mac n cheese. Went back and asked them about this and they said the clear pieces are lobster as well. Clear pieces of lobster, really? Those clear pieces DID NOT taste like lobster, they tasted like shrimp. Still hardly any clear pieces either. Well, whatever it was, it wasn't good. Definitely not worth the $17. Would not order this again. Asked for my money back and they declined. Although they did let me order something else in exchange.

Highly disappointed because the lobster mac and cheese does not have any lobster apart from the teeny tiny specks on top of the plate. Instead, the LOBSTER mac and cheese had multiple WHOLE SHRIMP that was not even chopped. What kind of establishment advertises a lobster mac and cheese but uses SHRIMP to pass off at lobster. (there is no mention of shrimp in the product description) I honestly wasted my money here.

This spot is confusing, it is inside the Lama Dog Tap room, a window to the left as you enter. You have to get a table from the Tap room waiter, and it seems like they expect you to drink and then get food on the side, it's really just pub food while you're drinking. We weren't drinking, so it was a weird experience. Anyhow, ordered the fried cauliflower and the fried chicken sandwiches, both were meh, wouldn't order either or return for the food.

Okay so I realized I posted a good review about the fried chicken sandwhich on lama dog but I meant to post here! I am obsessed with fried chicken. I'm not mad about it. And you know what I LOVE? The spicy fried chicken sandwich here with the fries! Talk about AMAZING. You know something is delicious when you order the same thing everytime and refuse to try anything else. I've tried a lot of fried chicken sandwiches in SB but this ones my favorite and my go to. It's on the pricier side- which is the only reason why I gave 4 stars and not 5- because I definitely think it should cost

We were able to come here during the pandemic and had a delicious meal paired with drinks from Lama Dog, Their outside patio is dog friendly and they have lots of gluten free options. I totally enjoyed my porkbelly quesadilla and my husband had the Lama Burger.
The staff was super friendly and even gave our pups treats along with bowls of water. Next time we're in SB we'll be back for sure!

I love the Nook and their food. The 3 stars are for the middle line cook wearing his mask very low around his mouth for a full 5 minutes while I was waiting for our dessert order. All other workers and kitchen staff had their masks on over their noses and mouths. I did not see a manager or anyone tell him to pull his mask up. And, there were orders; it was not during a down time without food around. If there was no concern about being seen without a mask being correctly used while customers are around, I am curious what goes on there during morning food and kitchen prep.
Our first order was Tempura

Went here specifically to try their burgers as I have been trying to find a great burger in town. I've been almost everywhere and nothing even comes close to what these guys put out. Presentation, flavor, everything stood out. I got the lama burger and was really impressed. The stuffed peppers really make it delicious, and the bacon is nice smoky thick cut pieces. When I bit into the burger it was incredibly juicy. Other places charge nearly the same price and just don't put out a juicy burger. Hands down best burger in town. I'm really happy I found this place. The lady at the order

We got the Nook to-go the other week and it did not disappoint. I took a chance on the sweet potato fries (which I normally do not like) and they were so good! Now I love sweet potato fries but only get them from the Nook because they make them the best! Besides our tasty fries we also ordered one beef burger and one veggie burger. I got the veggie and I really like all the extras to it. The cheese was perfectly creamy and the guacamole was well done. I highly recommend the Nook to anyone in looking for a bite to eat in the Funk Zone. It's definitely my go to spot after a brew or two.

Nook is a food stand that's located inside Lama Dog in Santa Barbara. My family wanted to go for some beer and I was happy that they had food available at Nook since I don't drink beer.
They have a huge German Pretzel that's bigger than the size of my face! It's $6 and comes with Beer Cheese and Beer Mustard Dip! It was pretty bomb and I'd recommend it! I want to learn how to make pretzels from scratch now!
