Services
I have worked in agency, hospital and school settings with adults, adolescents, and children as well as with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I enjoy working in a collaborative way with clients, helping them to build on their strengths, get a new perspective, and develop their untapped resources.
I offer therapy services to adults, children, and adolescents. This includes work with individuals, couples, families, as well as small groups. I especially focus on working with individuals and with children. Child therapy sessions involve play therapy and the use of creative art materials. A typical therapy session lasts 50 minutes, but longer sessions can be arranged for couples, families, and more in depth work.
People participate in therapy, also called psychotherapy, for various reasons. Many people find it can be helpful to talk with someone outside their family/social circle, such as a therapist, to get a fresh perspective, new ideas, and a different kind of support. Therapy is different from the support of friends in several ways.
Just as an adults can be shaken by life events and changes in life circumstances, a child's sense of safety and ability to cope can be impacted by the things that happen in their life. A move to a new city, the loss of a grandparent, or the divorce of her parents, can shake a child's balance, cause them to feel anxious, withdraw or act out.
However, it is an illness just like high blood pressure, heart disease, or cancer. While the symptoms of depression are often thought of as mental or emotional, they also impact physical health. On brain scans the brains of people with depression look different than those without depression. Not everyone with depression has all of these symptoms and it manifests differently at different ages.
