I've been involved in the events industry for nearly 18 years. From planning gorgeous weddings at some of the top venues in North Carolina, to corporate confernces, non-profit galas and fundraisers, and bar/bat mitzvahs, I've done it all! And along the way I've received recognition from national publications such as Style Me Pretty, The Knot, Every Last Detail, Munaluchi Bride, and more.
I have also won The Best of Durham award 8 years and running. After having a fabulous career in full service event planning I realized that my true passion isn't as much in planning the event details and design as making sure that the day is flawless in its execution. For eight years I was catering director of one of the Triangle's most prestigious restaurant groups where I handled everything from small dinners parties to large scale events for corporate, non-profit, and private clients. My specialty quickly became weddings and bar and bat mitzvahs which inspired me to open A Swanky Affair in 2010.

Amanda is simply the best! We started working with her in early 2020 for our January 2021 wedding. We thought the world would have recovered from COVID by the time our wedding rolled around, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Amanda took the re-scheduling in stride and was able to move every single one of our vendors to our new date in November 2021. Amanda Scott, owner of A Swanky Affair, was a huge help as we navigated the challenges of hosting our daughter’s wedding at a very large and very busy venue. Amanda was a godsend for my daughters pandemic wedding. Crazy changes and Amanda didn’t skip a beat. She is extremely detailed oriented and points out things that you would never think of. I felt comfortable calling her and asking any questions that came up. She leaves nothing out and the bride or her mother aren’t stressed out with details especially the day of!

It was a fantastic whirlwind weekend, coordinated by Amanda for our son and daughter-in-law’s out of town wedding! All events were meticulously coordinated with the bride and groom and their families, multiple vendors (several caterers, florist, band, lighting, etc.), and included a welcome dinner, wedding ceremony and reception, and next day brunch. Amanda helped us plan the most amazing wedding for my daughter this spring. Due to Covid 19 the wedding had to be rescheduled a year later and a venue change was needed rather last minute due to the our original venue not reopening in time. When hiring her I could have never imagined all we would encounter this past year. Amanda took all this in stride and helped us make the necessary decisions and changes much more palatable.
