The Term "EGD" stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy, also known as upper endoscopy, and is a procedure usually performed by a gastroenterologist (GI or intestinal doctor). This test involves passing a long flexible black tube with a light and video camera on one end through the mouth to examine and visualize the esophagus (the swallowing tube leading to stomach), stomach and the first part of the small intestines called the duodenum.
This is a procedure that allows your doctor to dilate, or stretch, a narrowed area of your esophagus (swallowing tube) usually due to esophageal strictures, Schatzki's Ring, Achalasia, Ingestion of caustic Agents and Tumors. Biopsies (taking small pieces of tissue) of any abnormality may also be done directly through the endoscope.
Patients and prospective patients should contact each health care practitioner who will provide services in the ASC to determine the health insurers and health maintenance organizations with which the health care practitioner participates as a network provider or preferred provider. Services may be provided in this health care facility by the facility as well as by other health care providers that may separately bill you.

Nurses and staff were super nice when I arrived. After getting drugged for my endoscopy I don't remember a thing afterwards. Next thing I remember is arriving back home. If you're worried about your endoscopy, don't be, you probably won't remember the experience at all. I had a slight amount of soreness in my throat that lasted about a day, but other than that no other noticeable effects.

Great overall experience! The nurses were all very helpful and kind the day of surgery and Dr. Krol took great care of me. Took me less than 3 hours to get in and out. I saved a lot of money by coming here and not the hospital. Would suggest to anyone looking to get their colon cancer screening out of the way.
