Philosopher, Aristotle, expresses in his quote much of how I think and work both personally and therapeutically. I believe that we begin our lives in relationship with others-whether it is your natal parents, grandparents, adoptive parents, a group home-as humans we don't live in isolation. Therefore, I work from the perspective that relationships are the origin of our greatest growth, yet can also be the source of our greatest challenges.
As your therapist I am also available to work collaboratively to determine your goals. These may include things in your life that you may be seeking to shift or perhaps you are looking to increase acceptance of what you are going through.
I work with couples who are dating, married, same-sex, separating, divorcing, co-parenting, transitioning in some manner-the introduction of a new family member be it a new child, an older parent, an adult sibling, betrayal, conflict resolution, communication difficulties and a myriad of other concerns.

Over a decade ago, Laura worked with me while I was a resident in NYC to navigate several life challenges and overcome personal obstacles. She is forthright, caring, and most importantly, Laura asked me questions (patiently) and allowed me to arrive at my own discovery which drove my profound growth. Now, during COVID, and facing the most traumatizing loss of my lifetime thus far, I have been able to reconnect to work through my extreme shock, loss, and grief. When I reached out from across the country (I am now on the west coast), Laura instinctively knew how to assist me back on to the road

I first starting seeing Laura for family counseling for my husband, son and myself. Family life was pretty stressful, chock full of pain and anger. None of us were seeing eye-tp-eye. Laura was so supportive and gave us skills to understand one another and look at different perspectives. She is a very skilled mediator and brought us all closer together. We are much happier as a family and as individuals.
During Covid and the lockdown, I began to see Laura individually. I was overwhelmed by a life-changing illness that challenged all aspects of life. She helped me organize my mind and my priorities

Laura and I has virtual therapy together during COVID which was an absolute lifesaver for me while I was
navigating grief, loss, and hardship while isolated during the peak of the pandemic. She was able to meet me where I was at, ask questions to help me self reflect and be a safe space when I needed compassion. I am NOT a fan of virtual therapy overall, but Laura made it worthwhile.

Laura cuts through, in the gentlest way possible. My husband and I appreciate direct! For two people that have a strong bond but a tremendous amount of weight around them, along with an alpha stance, her guidance through listening, speaking, and mirroring was really helpful to rebuild our foundation. I have a lot of gratitude for her non-emotional, but compassionate and objective approach to us. And of course Copine is an extra bonus that really helps with healing. Thank you Laura for clearing the path..

Laura Young gifts the power of identifying, honoring and navigating difficult emotions. She explores word use and the intentions behind them and honors the fact we are all imperfect. She teaches through example of how to have regard for oneself while also having regard for others. Laura has incredible intuition, tolerates projection and picks up on nonverbal communication while remaining curious without criticizing. I have personally and professionally benefited from time spent with Laura Young.

I've been Laura's patient a few years back when I was navigating through a very rough patch and weighting very big decisions: if it wouldn't be for her, I'd probably still be stuck where I was immensely unhappy. I was doing both individual and group therapy with Laura and till this day, I am grateful for a great toolset she helped me built not just in response to the crisis at hand but for many many more to come. She's one of those rare ones who don't give you answers but help you ask better questions. She's compassionate, patient and insightful. I recommend her

It's sort of personal reviewing a therapist but Laura is terrific. I've been seeing her for nearly a year and have never had a better experience. She's extremely professional, kind, and a great listener. One of the best things about Laura is how she helps you connect the dots and really think about certain things that you never realized. I've learned a lot about myself since seeing Laura and will forever be grateful for the work we've done together. I think this is the first time I've ever really looked forward to going to therapy. She's also super responsive

My partner and I visited Laura for couples therapy. Over our ten sessions together, we found her to be an attentive listener and specific in her analysis. Laura worked with us to find a style that fit our needs and provided exercises to work on in our own time. After several months, we're more connected as a couple and find we're able to address issues as they arise with levelheadedness and candor. Highly recommended.

Laura is truly amazing. My fiance and I have extremely different preferred styles of communication. Laura is able to speak to each of us in the style that we prefer and teaches us how to speak to each other that way as well so that we are both getting what we need out of the relationship in the end. Sessions are short and extremely efficient. Laura does not pull any punches - and I love it. Very direct and very effective. After being with someone for 10 years, you don't expect your relationship to change drastically... maybe just a little. But it has changed drastically - and we're SO

I sought out Laura to get a better understanding of my experiences in romantic relationships. Her insight and perspective has not only given me what I was looking for; it is a conduit for meaningful and positive change in many aspects of life. While previous work with other therapists led to periods of reflection and thought, I find Laura’s approach to be more insightful and transformative.
Additionally I am impressed by her commitment to continuing training and development. Related to this, she is genuinely interested in feedback and a dialogue about the therapeutic process. This is something

My husband and I have been seeing Laura for a little over a year now. She's great at facilitating communication and helping us see things in a different light. Laura has helped us grow individually as well as a couple.
Laura's technique is letting us communicate directly with one another, stepping in and guiding the conversation when we hit a roadblock.
As a true testament to how much Laura has helped us, we even made it through writing this Yelp review together without anyone yelling. Laura is in short, a magician! We look forward to each visit, to continue making progress... and playing

We found Marissa, for couples therapy on Yelp, called and had an awesome conversation with her.
We never called back to book the appointment because things got a little better between us and we convinced ourselves that the rough patch was over.
It wasn't long before another rough patch came along and then another and remembering the connection we had on the phone, we reconnected with Marissa and committed to the couples counseling.
She made really complicated issues in our relationship understandable and manageable. It was pretty easy to implement the things we talked about with Marissa

Hands down one of my most pleasant experiences I've had as an adult woman. Laura was recommended to me by a friend who has used her for couples therapy with much success and I chose to see her for individual sessions on a weekly basis. I saw her regularly for about 8 months and will continue to do follow ups. Totally worth it. Life changing and has brought much clarity and peace of mind with my day to day struggles.

I came to Laura for couples therapy but ended up seeing her long term for individual therapy. Finding a good therapist is stressful and difficult and I had never found one I really felt comfortable with before Laura.
Laura was happy to work with me to find a style that was effective. When I needed support that's what I got. When I needed to be pushed, she was there for that too. When I thought I needed one but actually needed the other, she usually got that right too. Laura isn't a my way or the highway kind of therapist -- she worked to build a positive and effective theraputic relationship

Is it weird to enjoy therapy? Well, I genuinely enjoy my visits with Laura. I was SO nervous before my first few sessions and in time I actually grew to look forward to them.
I am taking a break after about 7 months of consistent work with Laura and can say that oddly ... I will miss my visits. I always left cleared of the "cobwebs" and feeling energized. Laura is firm and consistent and yet we laughed a bit too. She doesn't waste time getting into your core work - and she doesn't allow you (me) to beat around the bush.
Thanks for everything Laura!

Laura helped me work through the grief and depression I have which was triggered the sudden death of my brother. She has an excellent way of helping her patients see things in a different light-- finding self awareness and emotional health through impossibly difficult times. Laura has a way of listening to my concerns, understanding and acknowledging them... and showing genuine interest in improving my life.

Laura Young (psychotherapist) was referred through a friend who I witnessed a powerful and positive transformation. My friend worked with Laura both for individual and group psychotherapy and had made several successful referrals to Laura for couple’s counseling as well. As this was my first time seeking out marriage therapy, my husband and I had concerns.
I appreciated from the beginning the professional, prompt and kind response I received when I contacted Laura. At her office, my husband and I felt her detailed initial questionnaire gave us both a lot to think about.
Her approach is engaging
