Sew it up is a professional clothing alternation business located in Burnsville, Minnesota. We specialize in Bridal Alterations, including but not limited to wedding gowns, bridal party attire, suits/tuxedos, etc. We are a one-women shop, ran solely by alterations specialist, Kathy Peterson. Sew it up started in 2005 in the basement of our home in Hermantown, Minnesota.
Not long after moving into our Hermantown home, the Army called my husband Blaine to active duty. All we knew at that time was that he could possibly be gone for 12-18 months on deployment to Iraq. I was working for an alterations company in Cloquet, MN at the time and my husband encouraged me to purchase the equipment and supplies needed to run a business out of our home while he was gone.

I am a full service bridal alteration professional with four decades of experience! I enjoy working on every type of dress from bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses to flower girl and mother of the bride dresses. I can make any garment feel "made-for-you". I also do design changes like creating a sweetheart neckline from a straight across one, creating straps or sleeves for a strapless dress, and changing a zipper back into a corset back.
Each garment is unique, so I am giving very general price ranges here. The price could be different when we see the item due to it's construction and the amount of work it will take to complete the job in a professional manner. Wedding gowns usually take 6 weeks minimum to complete with three (3) scheduled fittings during that time.

Not only was Kathy very helpful and enthusiastic in figuring out how to best create a heart-shaped pillow for my mom’s birthday (made out of my deceased dad’s favorite shirt), but her prices were quite fair and her timeline was swift.

Kathy is amazing! She altered my wedding dress , 2 of my bridesmaids and both of my flower girls. All 4 dresses turned out perfect. When it came to my wedding dress Kathy did everything I asked and made sure I felt as beautiful as I should in it. She was also kind enough to alter a bridesmaid dress only a week before my wedding. Kathy altered my wedding dress, and she did such an amazing job. We made a few big changes to the dress, and I was nervous that they would look obvious and ruin the dress. Kathy made the dress look way better than it did before, and the dress didn't look like it had been altered at all. She was great to work with and did such a great job on my dress.

This was an amazing job at an amazing price. I was having a hard time trusting someone to cut my $1000 wedding dress, but Kathie did an amazing job and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. I had a set of straps added, bustle, hem, and taking it in on the sides.

Kathy does a wonderful job on mens suits. She has been doing all my suits for years and I followed her to her new Burnsville, MN location. I used her for my military uniforms as well. When I transferred from the Army to Air Force, there was no hesitation on being able to adapt to the new service regulations. I highly recommend Kathy. She can fix or do magic on most anything!

I have gone a number of times. They altered a dress I bought for my daughter's wedding, and my husband's suit. I recently had some more things altered. I had a shirt with a draped neck set was a bit too low. To some extent the front had to be taken apart and remade. They are very professional, and do meet their deadlines.

I've gone to Sew it Up a few times to have dresses altered. She does a fine job but is on the expensive side. I recently had a dress shortened and it was pointed out to me that the hem wasn't even. There were 3 layers to the dress and the middle layer was uneven. She does work for military members and I believe she offers a discount.

I was happy with the service I received here-- she was quick to set up appointments and do the alterations, but I was not very happy when I almost did not fit in my dress on my wedding day. When I tried it on, I knew it felt really really tight, but she said it was perfect. My wedding was about 3 days later, so I am pretty dang sure I didn't suddenly grow...... However, I had three of my bridesmaids struggling to get me in, and I did wonder for a second what I would do if I could not get in my dress. I am reasonably sure she did the alterations too small and just didn't want to redo them
