Services
In 1948 John Bazacas started in the physical fitness industry, in Los Angeles, California. In 1961 he moved to Newport Beach and in 1971 he opened the family gym and called it the Newport Beach Athletic Club. Forty three years later the NBAC is still family owned and operated by the Bazacas and the Burnham families.
There isn't just one way path to physical fitness. At the Newport Beach Athletic Club we have a wide variety of services to fit any person's interests and goals. With experienced physical trainers and corresponding facilities, we are confident that we have a program, trainer, service that will get you excited for the gym!

The Newport Beach Athletic Club was a surreal experience for me. This gym is more likely to cater to those who have an affinity for the old school workouts as opposed to people who are drawn by the trends. The gyms are separated by gender, so women will work out with women while men will work out with men.

Great gym. I'm in town visiting and their daily rates are reasonable. The owner is very professional. Not all the equipment is brand new, but everything you need and more is there and works. No big crowds to mess with your program. Plenty of free weights and rowers. Quality equipment. Great tunes. I'll be back.

2 coaches from Czech Republic came to US for a month to do their hockey stuff and got a nice place to stay in town, so we look around for some real gym and found this place, old school good looking gym with good people around and a very nice stuff for the first 3 weeks, than the other day we had a good work out and decide to go play table tennis to have some fun on the end. The gym was free, so we pult out the table to play, before we got everything set up, some random young men came to us to and told us take the table to a different spot, than is the gym area for that, because he wants to play

This gym is all about customer service. If you're looking for a LA Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness this is not the place for you.
They will put you on a workout program and not nickel and dime you for it.
It's upscale but not snooty. They pride themselves on a clean, finely run machine with the latest equipment.

I'm here five to six days per week. That says it all. NBAC has been the gold standard for 47 years, and is not showing any sign of age. John Bazakis and his family have owned and operated the club from the outset, and it truly benefits from the family approach and the continuity of philosophy.
This is both a place to workout and a place to chew the fat with your buddies. Everything is always in great working order, it is kept cleaner than any gym I've ever been to, and the camaraderie is great. I've paid more, but never gotten as much for my dollar.

Traveling on business and dropped in for a single workout. Price is $15 and you get access to everything. Very nice gym and great equipment from free weights, machines, rowers , treadmills (including a Xebex), bikes, etc. I wish I had convenient access to THIS gym back home. Not crowded. Not a meat market or full of meatheads. Just a place to come in and hit it hard. Next time I swing thru town I will again stay at the Marriott just so I can walk down to this place.

Visited this club for a Towel toning class on a Saturday morning. After signing the waiver, I made my way to the basketball court where the class was being held. The session hosted by Virginia was awesome! Highly recommend it for toning!
The gym has a homely feel to it. There's a cafe with an outdoor patio on the 2nd floor.
Plenty of parking.

Joined the NBAC when it first opened. Enjoyed the experience for 8+- years. During that period, I learned to play handball & racquet ball (poorly, I must admit). Moved to No. Calif. and miss the 'club's'… atmosphere. Therefore, when we visit Newport Beach each summer, I'm excited to return to the NBAC as a temporary member. Too, I'm so impressed with the improvements the family has made to make the NBAC 'the place' to work out!

Great gym. Friendly staff and members, small business/boutique gym feel. Clean. All the equipment you need no matter how you like to work out. I personal enjoy Olympic lifting and circuit training and they have bumper plates, kettle bells, etc. Never too crowded either, which is a huge plus in this populous area.
